Hello,

I'm still learning about the 7800 system so please be kind...

I just bought a 7800 today with the open port on the side labeled Expansion Interface. Was this the earliest version or later version? What was it used for? Is it less common? Any info on this mystery would be greatly accepted!

Thanks,

Doug

That's the earlier version. The expansion port was supposed to be for a laserdisc player adapter. I don't know how rare that 7800 is, though.

Wasn't there also a computer addon planned for the 7800? I never heard of the laser disk thing, but remember in the early eighties, all the game companies went crazy with the idea of computer addons (and it caused many console makers to go bankrupt) Intellivision would be a good example of that.

Anyhow, that'd be interesting to see. Are there any prototype LD systems floating around for the 7800? That would be so awesome.

Oh, and what's the likelyhood of someone being able to create something to use the expansion port? Perhaps a sound upgrade, or a graphic modifier to make the 7800 do tile graphics rather than scan line type graphics?
