Hi Everyone

I Got Sick of having to use the rather uncomfortable 7800 Joypad with no Thumb Pad. I got so annoyed about this I made 2 Great Homemade Replacements, which are very easy to make. You need a screw that fits the thumbpad screw in, a Drill and a Small Wood Like Ball. (I used cedar balls, which are also able to be used instead of Mothballs). All you need to do is:

1. Saw Off Top part of screw
2. Drill hole into small ball that fits screw
3. Stick screw in Drill hole in ball
4. Screw In Screw into Atari 7800 Pad
5. Finished! Now play Your Favourite 2600/7800 Game!

Look at pictures for example of them on the pads and alone.

Uncomfortable?
Spoken like someone raised on thumpads.. Nintendo generation...

Actually, my first thought was KUAL!!!! Looks great!!!

But you'd have to play it with the joypad on a solid surface. I think it would be uncomfortable to try to hold the pad and use that..

But a REAL ball on the top of the joystick, not some thumpad is the way to go!!!!
Pacman and the likes didn't have no fancy ergonomic contoured thumbpad thing!!!!
(Well, TRON's was pretty comfortable..., but... )

(Course, I can always go to the garage and use the arcade machine with the real joystick when I need that level authenticity! :-)

Those look really nice. I've also found the mini-sticks from a SMS pad to be good replacements.

You know, I can handle the 2600 joysticks as well as arcade game joysticks. I just find the shape of the thumbstick uncomfortable.

I was just buggin ya..

But, I have the joypads.. (Never tried the Prolines)

The Pads are OK. Better than the Coleco sticks, not as nice as the Odyssey2...

I'm just not a fan of thumbpads... And the little extender still has a thumbpad on the top.. And feels like it'll break.. (Maybe it's just the concept of a plastic screw...)

The wooden ball-tops looks KUAL, and more sturdy, but I'd need a way to hold the pad steady. I don't think I could hold the pad in one hand, use the other for the stick, and still fire.. If it was held in place... maybe, but I might break it... Years ago, I bought a real arcade stick and wired it into a box for my C64, because I broke more than a few cheap joysticks..

Personally, I never really liked the Atari 2600 sticks. Seemed too stiff to me. I like more play, like the O2, or a real arcade stick. Easy motion, good bouce back...

(As a side OT story, I got a Sidewinder 3D Precision Pro for my P200 a while ago.. Liked it.. Upgraded my PC to an 800Mhz.. Drivers stopped working.. Seems the MS drivers didn't like the faster PC (at least with 98). They released a fix that got it to work with PCs up to about 600Mhz.. It still kind of worked, but not all the features. Well, I upgraded again. Athlon XP2100 (1.8Ghz) and Windows XP.. Joystick WORKS as it should again!!! YEAY!!! And I was tempted to give it away... :-)

I have an attractive idea! How put you stick Velcro pads on the bottom of the controller and stick the other pads on a mouse pad?

I'm getting used to the dual thumbsticks on the Playstation 2 controllers, which to me is the only way to really play Robotron 2084.

I agree, Robotron is at it's best with two sticks like the Arcade Intended. I was thinking of modding a PSX controller so I could use it in place of 2 5200 sticks.
