Anybody ever noticed that the Gates of Zendocon box and label art is just the Atari 2600 asteroids box/label art touched up? Those damn Tramiels were at their cost cutting techniques again!

Phuzzed:

Just notice you and I are neighbors...well..almost. Anyway, I believe I have read somewhere in an FAQ or on one of the blurbs here at Atari Age on the main screen about this. I hadn't even noticed it until I saw mention of it before...and then I got to looking...and yes...there can be no mistake. If it isn't just a touched up Asteroids art...then it was traced and basically redone from the Asteroids label art.

Don't forget that the black and white pick on the VCS Solaris cart is just the same artwork taken from the original Star Raiders. I guess since Solaris is supposed to be the direct sequel to Star Raiders they figured it would just work.

Cost cutting at its best...

Not only Atari saved money this way. Telegames also did this. The same artwork are on both European Soccer box (Atari Lynx) and on International Soccer box (Atari 2600)

Whoever drew that artwork clearly has no idea about Soccer (it's football for gawd's sake), the pitch behind the player in Orange kit has NFL style hashmarks. Never seen them on a 'sawker' pitch before.
