I recieved my copy from Megamanfan yesterday and it works great.

It's a bit frustrating to land blows using the 7800 controller. I spent quite a bit of time trying to shake off the easiest foes.

I dunno why it's more difficult as well.

Any thoughts? Advice on how to get through it a bit?

It looks DIFFERENT from the NES version I grew up with. This is good as I hear it's closer to the arcade version...the 7800 version that is

The 7800 version of DD is challenging, but it's like the arcade in that you can use one or two key moves to fight your way through the whole game. In the arcade, the elbow jab was your friend. On the 7800, the reverse jump kick was the choice move. Master that and the game becomes a LOT less complicated.

However, Elbow jabs on the 7800 version will always knock down the foe. You just have to remember that you have to facing away from the enemy when you execute it.

BTW...Abobos...cannot defend against a well placed Elbow Jab...

And you will find that if you wiggle the joystick up and down a bit as you fight...the enemies tend to get stupid..and just walk across the screen...

Use that time to come up on them..and then reverse kick or elbow jab them...works well...

However, on the shadow boss at the end...the best method to stay alive..is to simply stay out of his way and have lots of lives stored up.

:D

I have Double Draggon on the 2600, that's a hard piece of crap. I didn't even know it was out on the 7800, though I guess it should be, if it made it to the 2600

Was it hacked onto the 7800 or something? I thought it was only for NES.

Nope, officially released by Activision in 1989. Although it's my favorite 7800 game, it pales in comparison to the SMS version, which looked, sounded, and (I think) played smoother. Playing 7800 DD is awful with the pro-line controllers, and the enemies, while they can be countered with practice, are too hard.

Really? I found that the 7800 version was an decently challenging game, but definitely possible to defeat and - quite easy - once you learned a few of the tricks, actually.

I did like the SMS version - it did have better graphics and sound. However, it also flickered like a banshee.

Yeah, flickering is a problem with the SMS, and DD suffers in two-player mode, but overall it was a great port.

7800 DD is by no means the hardest version, but it's more difficult than it should be. If you haven't learned the moves, losing too many lives during Mission 1 is more than frustrating.

I still love the NES version. I can put up with the level changing and heart system (it gives you a reason to get as many points as possible, and don't you just love sitting on someone and punching them in the face a la Renegade?), but I was irked at no two-player mode. Geez, get rid of the freakin' mini game if it means getting two players on screen and taking on hordes of bad guys.
