Just had three new Lynx games arrive today. Well, new for me - Kung Food, Chip's Challenge and Crystal Mines.

When I got my Lynx I got a package and pretty much stuck with game titles I knew, mostly arcade stuff - Rampart, Xenophobe, Paper Boy, Roadblasters, Ms. Pac, etc. I wish I had got a few of the titles I was less familiar with, like these three - took all of 'em for a test spin tonight and I gotta say I like 'em all! Gameplay, sounds, graphics - great for a handheld.

For some reason I thought Kung Food was considered a bad game. I kinda like it. Neat concept, nice graphics. Plays well. I got through the first level, but the carrots gang up on me at the start of the second - I'll have to try again.

Were the first new Lynx games I had bought in three years. Now I've got a fourth on the way - Gates of Zendocon. Hope it's as good as it looks.

Congratulations to your new games! Nice to hear you like all of them. I hope you remember to upgrade your Signature when your Lynx collection grows.

I think Kung Food is somewhere in the middle. It is of course better than Dirty Larry but not as good as Double Dragon.

Gates of Zendocon IS as good as it looks. And it sounds good also. The music is great! The game is very fun to play and has a password feature. One negative thing is that the game maybe is a bit too easy and slow on easy mode.

Kung Food is FAR better than Dirty Larry. I had Dirty Larry in my collection first. Game looks good, plays horribly.

Since Zendocon looks like a Defender-style game, I'll be happy if it's slower. I was never very good at Defender.

And I updated my sig - 18 total now, including Zendo which I should have sometime next week.

Gates of Zendocon would compare a bit better with R-Type than with Defender. It does tend to move slowly, but in some of the later levels you're only grateful for that. It still remains one of my favorite Lynx games.

I'm not very good at games in the Gates of Zendocon genre (what would the genre be called? Rail shooters?). Zarlor Mercenary kicks my butt thoroughly (but I really like it anyway), and I've never played Raiden but from what I've heard it sounds even more difficult than Zarlor. However, Gates of Zendocon has a much gentler difficulty curve and it's slow enough that you don't have to be a 10 year old on a sugar high to be able to play it well. There's a decent amount of strategy in it, too.

I like Kung Food. It's a pretty good title, despite having a goofy concept. It almost sounds like someone developed it as a joke but the game was so good they decided to release it.

Brings me to an even 20 games. Damn, gotta update the sig again!

Keep them coming in, Brian! Lynx games are quite addicting....most of them are cheap to buy, especially when you're still needing quite a few of the common ones. For some reason, I still get a thrill whenever a brand new shrinkwrapped Lynx game comes in the mail.

Doesn't really matter to be if they're considered "common" or not. What I care the most about is that I will like the game and actually play it, and want to play it.

And getting any new Atari game is always a thrill. It's so much fun opening them - I've had that pleasure with games brand new for the 2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx and Jag. I think even one of my 8bit computer games I got new.
