I've used eBay for a number of years, had a LOT of good transactions and the usual bad few ones. But in all the time I've used eBay I've never been able to figure out how or why people bid like they do.

For example, GoAtari recently put up new Lynx and Jag items for auction, all with a starting bid of 99cents. No prob, good deal. But then I see the auctions end and I'm AMAZED at what people pay for items. Warbirds just sold for $75.00 yet you can go to the GoAtari website and purchase the same game for $49.99. Raiden for the Jag went for $43.00 yet you can buy it at the GoAtari website for $29.99.

Am I missing something here or do people go crazy at times on eBay?? Anyone have any ideas on why people bid the way they do?

Just curious....

Stop thinking about it and start selling some things on eBay ;)

And a guest post in the Lynx forum :)

I think people just get genuinely carried away when bidding on eBay. I've seen some of the commonest games go for obscene prices, simply because of the people bidding...

As a gamer with a budget (unlike so many, it would appear) I know it's very difficult to just walk away from a prized auction you've been watching for (seemingly) ages when the bidding gets too high for you. But there's usually another auction of the same item further down the list, anyway :)

That's my theory, feel free to disagree :)

Stone...heheheheheheh

I'm a Lynx owner too but just never used it that much; not because I don't like it but because when I'm home I'm on the consoles or PC. I use my Lynx when I'm away from home and having to wait for something: for example when I go for a Dr. appointment because I know I won't get called back to the examining room until 11:10am even though my appointment time is 9:30am, or on a airplane flight somewhere. For whatever reason I rarely find an urge to play it around the house.

And I agree with your ideas on eBay bidding.... I've found myself getting caught up at the last moment and placing a bid I might not have normally made. Lately, though, the snipers have been taking care of my bidding carelessness so I've not really gone over my budget.... :D

C'mon guys - you've all played Lemmings. . . . LOL!

One bid over actual value and viola - a false sense of obscurity.

Then there are those that have never heard of a 'search engine'.
