yeah, it works wonders. Makes these little spirals on the disc, but it doesn`t matter really. And you should bye the official **** Dr., Since there are game Dr. Cd Dr., DVD Dr. and whatever else, they all work the same, just marketed towards different groups

I'll attest to it working, as every bad or scratched CD I've run through mine has been fixed. I'm thinking I should've bought the powered one, though, as running one CD through the manual one will wear most people out.

It doesn't take much energy at all IMO- just once around the CD (& once in reverse if you prefer).

Could be a case of EXTREME laziness...

BTW, I wish people would SEARCH the forums/topics for answers before posting. I know it's easier just to post, but there was a nearly identical topic under THIS one, plus I posted the same thing some weeks back (& still waiting for an answer)!

Do not get one! They are a piece of shit. I work at a video store and alot of people have come on and said that they have used them and tthey make the disc worse. Also my boss had one and it never worked. I suggest getting a professional clening for about $3.00. That machine works wonders!!! Try your local CD exchange or video store places.

Hey RJ - bite me!

lol

yeah yeah...much easier to say 'read read read' isn't it...I looked around and what I saw did not give me the answer I was looking for...and...the other thread was not exactly what I was asking, so...I posted my own thread...go up and hit the 'ignored users' button if you don't like my posts. I probably use the search function more than you do...lol.

Anyway...thanks for all the input..I tried out a couple of the cheap-o ones from WalMart but they are a total waste of time...I was more interested in opinions on the Game Doctor's...I think I will go make a purchase and try it out on those stubborn DC games I have that will not boot up.

Any of you have the powered version of the Game Doctor?

There are not any places around here that have the pro machines where I could get one cleaned that I know of...in the middle of nowhere here.

@Mock- no offense taken...are you sure that's supposed to be an "M" in your name? j/k :P :D

For what it's worth, my Game Dr fixed every PS2 disc I had problems w/ but won't help Fatal Frame...then again, I can't see any scratches on the disc... :?

All in good humor...lol.

You might want to try that fluid fix I was talking about in the other thread...

Mock

I picked up a game doctor a while ago to try and fix some bad Sega CD's. They looked better when done, but still would not load, so the GD has been a negative experience for me...

well, for those who care- I finally made it to Wal-Mart & got an Allsop CD repair kit. It has various pads, resurfacing discs & a battery-powered "applicator" not unlike a teeth-cleaner @ the dentist. I'm not sure if the fluid included is that mentioned earlier in this thread.
Anyhoo, I followed the manual & tried the game CD (Fatal Frame)- & it actually worked WORSE than b4! I could get thru the Himuro intro, but suddenly the game hung up when I picked up a notebook. I decided to use my Disc Dr to fix the "problem" the Allsop caused- & IT WORKED! I playtested for 5-10 min w/ no problems!

So, once again- I stand by the Disc/Game DR- it saved the day (again!)

I swear by the disk doctor as well. After using it I apply some chrome polish (super fine) clean it up with IPA then buff the disk with "Brilliazine" (close?) a plastic glaze. They look virtually new afterwards and my success rate is 99.9999%. Even disks I took steel wool too have been recovered.

Disk Doctor, looks stupid but honestly works.

Tech Tv showed one of these disc doctors. They was like only use it on a disc that you know for sure is messed up. I'm thinking yea. As for bad discs. I purchased a kit from radio shack, cleaner/polisher. Seemed to fix the discs I had problems with. Somebody at one time suguested the stuff they use to fix rock chips in windsheilds. So I guess it just depends. If you can get ride of the scratch or if you need to grind it down to make it even so the laser can read it. The one thing I was surprised at is the radio shack cleaner looked like it left the scratch. But when you look at it. You can tell it is filled. Would have been nice to fix it and see no scratch.

Josh

Amen, shaggy. I work at a Software Etc., and when folks bring in games to trade, if they've been Disk Doctored, 90% of the time they go in the refurb pile. We don't carry them in our store any more. And $3 is about right to get one professionally refurbed... they're essentially new. Some video rental chains have the refurb machines at the store, and if you know the right person, you might be able to get a game or two fixed up for free... ;)

What is this refurb machine? I asume it puts a coat of something on the disc?

I got a few banged up sega cd discs. How much would it cost for me to wonder over to the boise mall/software etc and get them done? I asume they look like new afterwords?

Go talk to Donna at Video Game Trading Post. She has a guy in Eagle (I think) who does them for her, and he does great work. She usually waits until she has a bunch of games before she sends them out. As for Software, we have to send our stuff to corporate. :(

I'm not exactly sure how the machine works, only that you can't tell they've been refurbed. I don't think it puts a coating on them either. The extent of my knowledge is being able to tell which games need it, and which don't.
