I have a question here about Night Trap for the 32X. I have recently bought this but I can't get it to work. I just keep getting sound. Does anyone know a solution to get the video to work? Does it have something to do with me having a CDX instead of a regular Genesis/CD hook up? Thanks.

Have you tried using the audio/video cable from the 32X's back to the tv?
Sega's site says you should do that if you have an orginal model Genesis, might be the same for the CDX.

The 32X does not use A/V cables. I wonder if it is because I am using the CDX because the 32X isn't supposed to be used with that for some reason, I don't kow why. But it does work alriight for me....

It should.. one set of cables from the Genny/Sega CD combo to the 32X, then the 32X has a cable running video/audio out.

Bratwurst is talking about the rf cords....

There is an RF cord that goes between the genesis and the 32x and then the normal RF adapter goes between the 32x and the tv.

You'll not get anything but the sounds and maybe the background if the rf adapter is connected to the genesis instead of the 32x. The conections made for the Sega CD don't matter.....

Have you tried using other 32X games on the system? If you don't have all the video cables hooked up properly, you'll often lose a lot of the video, yet audio will work fine.

Here's a description of how the cords should be hooked up:

1. You need an "AV Passthrough Cable". This is a short cable (about 6") with two identical ends that plugs into the "video out" port on your CDX, and into the "video in" port on the 32X. This seems stupid, but it's required.

2. You need some sort of video cable that hooks the 32X up to the TV/monitor.

If you only have the video coming from the CDX, you don't have it hooked up properly. Without the passthrough cable, you won't have a usable 32X.

Hmmmm I have never had any problem with it before but I have never used CD's with it only carts which all worked fine. I have recently movfed the system though so maybe something got screwed up when I moved. I'll try a cart and see if I get audio and video.

There's a possibility that something with the CDX doesn't work with 32XCD games... It supposedly works fine with 32X cartridge games, but I haven't heard much about 32XCD games, so who knows?

Can anyone confirm that 32XCD games do work on a CDX with a 32X?

(I'm using my X key too often in this thread...)

I can confirm this, I just played both Farenheit & Corpse Killer (yeah, the 32X versions!) on my 32X/CDX combo and had no problems at all. I don't have Night Trap yet, but shouldn't matter, I can't see that one game would not work when the rest do.

Speaking of which are there any other games that are CD32X? I can think of:

Night Trap
Corpse Killer
Farenheit
& Supreme Warrior (I think!)

That is why I posed this question because the box explicity states not to be used with the CDX, that it does not work. But the carts work fine and now it is confirmed that CD's do work. I have recently gotten Corpse Killer so I will try that one too. As for all the CD games for the 32X that is all I can think of.

There were 5 games released in the US. The only other one is Slam City with Scottie Pippen.

OK I have an update on this. I tried a 32X cart and nothign i just get the sega of america screen. As I said before the 32X CD's won't work BUT genesis games and regular Sega CD games work... something's fishy.

Someone posted a picture of it in another thread, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

The cord is only about a foot long, and has small round connectors at each end.

Oh, here we go... look at this page to see all the 32X bits and pieces. The fifth picture is of the A/V cable that you absolutely need regardless of whether you're using a CDX or a Genesis/SegaCD.

Sega (officially) states that the 32X does not work with the CDX because of FCC regulations. In other words, it would have cost more $ for them to produce a 32X/CDX combo which passed FCC regulations, so they opted to officially state that they are incompatible.. even though they are compatible... :ponder:

Hope you get it going...

Yeah, I've used 32x night trap with a cdx and 32x together.
Do 32x carts work for you? If not, it's probably a cable issue.
