I was looking at the lynx catalogues on the atari age site, and I saw a preview of the game 'Cabal', I remember playing this game on my speccy.

Is there any roms of cabal about for the lynx emulators? Does anyone know how far atari had got in its production?

Cheers
Bruce

this was only a demo for the ces shows,i think.it never got past the alpha
stage like heavyweight contender,720,vindicators,full court press, rolling
thunder and a few others.some demos of this stuff do exist on the lynx
dev kit stuff.some are only stills and others may be a few(12)animated
screens.one or two only run for 30 seconds or less(in the case of the lynx
design exercise demo "pounce" for instance).some were only "wow factor"
things the tramiels showed for good public relations at the shows to help
stock value increase(i've been told this)for their benefit.usually after these
things were announced they had their plug pulled or they faded away and
were not mentioned again.some of the game mags would bring them up
from time to time on their write in pages or what ever happened to pages.
most stuff was quietly "canned" and you did not know it unless you called
atari with an inquiry or wrote to them.i wrote to don thomas about stuff on
the lynx several times. :D he never had much to say.i got more out of
the guy or gal that answered the phone than him! small wonder,i guess.i
never could deal with atari really.only on speedy order shipments was i at
least satisfied with them! that and the release of a wonderful little gadget
they released called the lynx.they left a lot to be desired otherwise! the
worst game company i've ever dealt with! nintendo has never been a
problem.sega wasn't either.i hated the way sega abandoned the dreamca-
st the way they did.ditto with saturn and the genesis/nomad.nomad was a
great little lynx wannabe.nice handheld unit.nice graphics and all.they did
the same number on the 32x too.release it and drop it like atari.--chris

I have Cabal for my mame emulator. I rememeber playing that game in the arcades in the late 90s when I was in college.

I don't know what a "speccy" is.

The game I remember, you control a solider at the bottom of the screen armed with a machine gun and grenades. You have to destroy buildings and tanks and helicopters and shoot enemy soldiers in the playfield until the damage bar filled up. Then you'd do a little dance, and your player would move forward through the scene and up to the next scene. You'd do two or three and then meet the final boss for that stage, then move onto the next stage.

Would be great to have this game on the Lynx.

If that's an older system, I doubt Cabal was on it, at least not the Cabal I'm thinking of. I saw it in the arcades in 91-92-93.

yeah,i played it alot in what very few arcades i ever found "cabal" in.i only
remember ever playing it in one or two anywhere.it seemed to be a rare
arcade release like "toki" was.i only ever played toki in one arcade at the
several i used to frequent all around.i used to go to the illini union on the
university of illinois campus rather frequenly--this was an "arcade game
testing ground" i was told by folks--hence the rarity of the game units i
was able to find,i guess.i also used to go to space port on the campus all
the time too.sometimes they would have a rare unit as well.i remember
playing "thunder jaws" there, never saw that anywhere else but at space
port.toki i used to play at the illini union.i still go to the union once in a while.i also used to play "rolling thunder" and "assault" there too.those too
seemed to be rare units in arcades.also ever saw the rare sega game
"flicky" at alladin's palace in that area too.they had the rare exidy release
"andromeda" at alladin's palace there too-only unit i've ever seen.it was a
game like "battleshere" and was a 3/4 simulator that you sat in.rather small arcade arcade unit too.now that i look back on it,it was really a game like battleshere from back in 1995.predates battleshere by several
years!did 4play get their idea from this?it was 1993-5 sometime when i
saw andromeda.
your description of cabal is correct.i remember it the same way.i got through it twice,as i remember.it was a fun game to play.i liked to do it
with two players to clear the enemies out fast.it was a little cheesy and
silly that your character danced off into the sunset to music upon clearing
each round.it looked real cheesy with two players dancing off into the sun-
set to the cheesy music! it was silly fun though. wanted it on the lynx too!!
too bad it didn't come.--chris

I don't know what a "speccy" is.

Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the - 48k(rubber keys), 128k+2(tape loader), 128k+3 (disk drive).

If you never had a 'speccy' you've never lived.
try this site;

Played rolling thunder on speccy as well, would have loved that for the lynx.
