I loaded it with fresh batteries, and the screen lights up and the game tunes begin playing, but there is NO picture. Somehow, probably from being stored badly, the small "contrast" dial is GONE. What can I do, if anything? It burns me up to see the screen lit up and the music playing with no game on screen. Thanks....

Joe :)

....Oh yeah, I have it in half (exposed) already.....

well..the contrast knob is just a potentiometer. Therefore you should still be able to adjust the display with a small screwdriver or something similar. This is assuming that only the knob is missing and not the whole potiemeter as well...if that is the case....then either break out a soldering iron and some solder and figure what the potentiometer type is and replace it...or start shopping ebay...unless there is someone here who has a spare to offer.

I actually do have a spare...but given the nature of how unfun the Lynx 2 is to take apart and attempt to fix...my spare Lynx 2 is not for sale...or trade...sorry.

the lynx 2 is not that hard to work on really(i have no problem with it).how
did you lose the brighness wheel anyway?that is rather odd.i'venever had
that happen on a lynx I or II in thirteen years of having some 8 units.
it is not real hard to make yourself another wheel out of some sheet plas-
tic(thick).do you have an old pocket radio or cassette or cd player that is
not working?many things use the same or similar volume wheels and such
on them.you may have to trim it some for your lynx.improvise,my boy! it
helps get things fixed. :) -chris

Thanks for the advice guys. I spent two hours yesterday fiddling with it... It pisses me off to hear the music loud and clear, but NO PICTURE! :x I'm not going to screw with it ANYMORE, I'll cut my losses. It's lousy on many levels, that was a gift from my girl about seven years ago. It was at EB packaged with four games for $69.99. Anyone want my "old friend"?.......

I know this thing is fixable, if you still have the knob. Is it still floating around inside the Lynx? That's the good news, I damaged by Lynx by dropping it on the edge of the table, where it hit the contrast knob just right, with the same end effect.

The bad news is that I gave it to one of the techs at my former company to fix, and didn't watch what he did. I know it took him less than 2 minutes to figure out how to take the Lynx apart (including the screws under the grips), open it, fix it, and put it all back together. I think the wheel thingy may just snap back into place.
