i agree, but putting a sega cd emulator on the disc for one game probably wouldve cost them a lot of dev money.

And according to an article I read, the size of the file necessary (ISO image + any emulation code) would have taken up as much space as all of the other unlockable games COMBINED. No room on the disc for it. :(

bloody hell!... looks like i will never have a chance of playing it

well, most of the data on Sonic CD was redbook audio for the game's music. It wouldn't have been that difficult to compress that audio (into mp3 or other format) and making the space required much much smaller. I think it just wouldve taken a lot of extra work, on a disc that was more or less a throwaway in terms of effort. It was cool of Sega to include hi-res versions of the animation movies in Sonic CD though :)

I agree, the "extras" are what make the Mega Collection so neat - not just the unlockable games, but the movies, comic book covers, full instruction manual scans, and so on. It's a very well thought out archive of data that any Sonic website owner would've been proud of. :D

My still one and only complain with the entire collection, besides how long it takes to unlock everything with the "open and close" if you don't actually beat every game, is that the emulation in Sonic 3 "freezes" during the third or fourth chaos emerald stage. Thus, no matter how perfectly I'm running, it always throws me off and I make a mistake - so any chance of getting the entire set in 3 is basically impossible. :(

Ok I finally picked up the Sonic Mega Collection (along with the two Sonic Adventure remakes). I've unlocked everything except for Ristar. Do you really need to play each game 50(!) times? I think I did each game 20 times and that was long enough for me. If it really is 50 how long does it take? Probably more time than it would take me to go to my local flea market and pick up the original game...

There's a way to "cheat" the number of unlocks - you select the game and start it, but once it boots up you pause and exit. That still +1's your total whether you play or not.

Yeah that's what I've been doing, but it still isn't worth it. Ristar was an ok game (I have the Genesis original), but it's not THAT good.

I know how you feel, but I got really bored one night and just laid on the couch half-awake half-asleep hammering away at it on the Wavebird 'til it popped up. If you want to save yourself the trouble mail me a 59 and I'll copy the save for you.

So you just keep opening up the game until that log message dissappears?

1. First of all, Tempest is a complainer. :P
2. Second of all, a game should never punish its player like that. Having to play 50 times to unlock Ristar is a harsh penalty, certainly it is something that doesn't lend at all to the fun of playing the collection.

Sega, I know you read everything I type as do all game developers so I will say it here: "Reward the player, don't penalize the player".

Aww why do people keep saying that? Do people have nothing better to do than talk about me? I swear it takes too long to respond to all these messages... My fingers hurt... I'm hungry... This message board sucks... I'm going home... :P

Seriously though, I think this is a prime example of when unlockables go too far.

 Actually the S.M.C. unlock is definitely too extreme. It put me off buying Sonic Adventure DX for the Sonic Game Gear games, unless they drop the price for it below $30.
