...Seriously, people.  Try growing up a little.

I wasnt threatening you with a beating man, I was just stating my opinion on IGN. If I offended you in anyway I full-heartily apologize, but I don't really see how I could. And I don't understand what this has to do with my maturity..

I'm a subscriber. What's so bad about it?

First off, I'm sick of "everything must be free on the web" mentality that has killed a lot of promising sites.  There's gotta be some room for professional work, not just dedicated amateurs.

Second, they have reviews I trust, and videoclips I wouldn't have an easy time finding elsewhere.

On my comment, partially I was kidding, I do respect their opinions and reviews as I do for any other publication. I just think their advertising is a little too much, I do believe some of their Insider features offer excellent benefits (kind of a steep price is my opinion), however, their are magazines and other professional sites that offer excellent articles and reviews as well, free of charge. Such as Gamepro and Planetgamecube(not truly pofessional, but well written articles by gamers). I don't honestly think that subscribers are idiots, it's not something I would put my money into. Thankyou for not being too seriously hurt by comments, no harm no foul, I will try to explain my opinions towards IGN more respectivley and thouroughly next time.

I would guess it was directed a bit more at the person who joked that subscribers should be beaten. I didn't take it too seriously myself, though I still haven't heard an argument about why subscribing or the general site is so bad, except the possiblity you can get some of the same stuff for free. (and not counting the individual cases of a writer getting screwed out of money)

Sorry, I wrote that after your one post and before the other. Glad we've chilled out any flamage between us at least.

Anyway...I kinda started with IGN before they were pay, and between their extensive online archive of older games and a general principle of trying to support worthy online enterprises (I pay for Salon, even though truth be told I could survive without it) I shell out. Also I guess I can't be arsed to learn how to get around other sites, IGN has a pretty decent layout.

Ugh, no possible way the NES version is better than the Neo Geo system version. It is after all, and SNK game.......Bogus

I'm assuming you're talking about Baseball Stars with this one Starscream, and since this is the kind of banter these lists are made for...here's why I feel they chose the NES version over the NEO GEO version for this list...

Graphically yes the NEO GEO version wins hands down. Not even going to try and fight that point.

Gameplay is a push...although I think fielding is a touch easier on the NES...

If I remember correctly, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't spent a ton of time with the NG version...you couldn't build your own team, and you couldn't hire / fire players on your team, correct?

I think it is this level of management that pushes the NES version over the NG version. Plus you could improve your team over time in the NES version (again, if I'm missing some facts, let me know).

Also, the fact that fewer people had a chance to play the NG version may have had some effect as well.

My two cents, do with them what you will.

It's not my cuppa tea at all, but I've heard the Pokemon games are quite competent little RPGs, and I can see the appeal of "gotta catch 'em all" (Actually, I kind of dig the idea of having so many distinct creatures, some are pretty imaginative)

Just because the line got terribly over exposed (with cartoons, movies, card games, tangentally related games) and is sometimes overly cute, don't be so kneejerk against it.

You know, I'm a Shining Force FAN, and even I don't think that Shining Force 2 deserves to be on a top 100 games of all time list (its at #64).

Now, Shining Force 1 and Shining Force CD deserve to be on a top 100 list.

It doesn't matter though. I've found myself disagreeing with most of this list so far.

The only thing I didnt like about Shining Force II were all the items that were hold overs from the Japanese version that you couldn't use. Why have them in the game still? Granted they were hidden, but still...

I prefer the "pure battle" versions of Shining Force like Shining Force CD and the Gamegear version. All that village walking and talking to people in Shining Force 1&2, while fun at first.. I just can't do anymore :P

Since I didn't see anyone else post today's list...

#070 - System Shock 2
#069 - Ghosts 'n Goblins
#068 - Virtua Fighter 2
#067 - Sam & Max Hit the Road
#066 - Master of Magic

#064 - Shining Force II
#063 - Baldur's Gate
#062 - Herzog Zwei
#061 - Tobal 2

I'm surprised that VF2 isn't higher.

Can someone refresh my memory? I don't remember these three at all. Not to be conceited or anything, but I've been around video games enough to say that if I haven't heard of a game, then I don't see how it can be one of the top 100 ever....

I'd say Rayman 2 is good enough to be in there. It's a very well-done game, and one of the few games that managed to have decent camera angles most of the time.

I'd question Pilotwings being in there though... this never seemed like much of a game to me, but rather a Mode 7 demo that someone got released. The graphics were impressive for it's time, but I still think the gameplay was rather weak.

Tobal 2 was never released in the States. The other two are computer games... they have small write-ups on the IGN site.

Looks like their doing PC games, I hope a Space Quest game makes it on there (or at least a King's Quest title). Space Quest III & V are two of the funniest and most playable PC games ever, they do deserve a spot.

Of course, always rooting for Double Dragon :D , and I'd love to see Contra/Super C/Contra III make the list (and I bet at least one of them does).

Well spank my ass and call me Billy :D Ya know, I forgot all about the differences between the NES and Neo Geo versions. The NG version didn't have all of those features so I guess that would be the reasoning behind picking the NES version. Well, that and the fact that the game kicks serious ass :) I also think that Liquid is correct too about it actually being on the NES first - at least here in the states.

That is correct...I don't remember exactly when it came out on NES, it seems like 1986 or so IIRC. I don't think the NG version hit until 90 or so...

If they would have left in the build your own team option, I would have no problems calling the NG version the best game ever.

And my random congrats for a cool game pick tonight goes to Sam & Max Hit The Road...very nice...I haven't played it in years though.

Grim Fandango must be on the list somewhere, it just has to...

was VERY into those sort of adventure games at the time and i remember the MASSIVE hype for Sam and Max.

WOW what a disappointment!
Maybe one of the most overrated games of ALL time.

Play Space Quest IV over THAT.

Sam and Max Hit The Road ROCKED! I love that game! There are so many funny inside jokes and even the manual was funny. My favorite part is the "Cone O' Tragedy".

Space Quest IV, another PC game that deserves to be on that list. I've only heard of one person not liking it. Everyone else praises it, and most of the time they consider it the best in the series (It's not, III and V are tied at best and funniest).
