I can't believe that guy who ported Stella to the mac not noticing the 2600 homebrew movement and its great success in the hobby.  Nice blinders
And I can't believe that "he" does believe that there aren't any original games that don't use early RESPs during HBLANK.

I am 99.999% sure there are.

Sorry, I am not going to update Stella just to work with end-user-hacked ROMs.
Boo!!!

Sorry, but this sounds like sheer arrogance to me.

"end-user-hacked ROMs"? This is not a hack, it's a modern homebrew :!:

To be fair though, the comment was made regarding a different thread about problems with PezZerk, which really is an "end-user-hacked" version of Berzerk VE. And the problem that Denis describes is something that affects all version of the Stella emulator. Therefore it needs to be fixed by the team that maintains the emulator core and not by the people doing the ports to different operating systems. So it should be reported to Brad Mott instead.

After being able to play the fixed version in MacStella, I like the game even more. I'm looking forward to its release. Will you have a regular run or just a CGE release?

Thanks for the kind comments ;)

This will definintely NOT be an exclusive event release. You can expect to see it in the AA store when it's finished. I don't like exclusives. It alienates the people who can't make it to the show.

Fixed version worked fine on Linux stella 1.3

Man, level 5 is hard! Can get to that no problem, but can't even get up the first ladder and lose all my lives one after the other!

Ha! So am I the only one to make it to level 6?

Of course I only made it one time so far. And when I did get up that first ladder in level 5, I killed my climber because I was shocked I had made it. :D

You're one of the few, the proud, the level 6 guys. I'm still stuck on 5.

BAM! Girder beam to the head!

That's gonna leave a mark.

The new version works just great! I "get" the speed thing now. Since Stella wouldn't allow me to get beyond the first level before, I didn't know the guy sped up after that. I was afraid the whole game was that slow. ;)

Excellent. (The whole exclusivity thing puzzles me. I think if I had worked that hard to make a game, I'd want as many people to enjoy it as possible.)

Cool, I got to Level 6 by the skin of my teeth. I was on my last life and I got to the ball at the same time as the beam hit me. It showed the 'being hit' animation but it continued on to Level 6. I guess tie goes to the runner :D

Level 5 is hard/unbalanced because your little guy starts getting slow again while the beams get faster.

After all this playtesting, I've found a small bug. On level 10, the "0" in the scoring display is not quite right.

Here's how it looks.

And in that game, I got up to level 11, where the display is working fine.

Great game. Can't wait for those added features. 8)

A quick note to all you aspiring 2600 coders...whenever you make changes, check to make sure your critical graphics don't cross a page boundary

Congratulations on getting to those higher levels

No matter what BigPlayer says, I’m beginning to think that the game’s called “Climber 5” because 5 is the highest level that you can get to! :D  :D

Wow, I never thought I'd be doing a 7 character display on the VCS.

Hey don't give hints until you publish the game, you can be like those Activision programmers with their helpful hints in the manual :D

Well let me offer one hint for level 5--making it up the first ladder.

Get as far to the right as you can and still climb the ladder. Stop one scanline below the girder on the second row. Then, what can I say? It still takes perfect timing. ;)

One you make it up that first ladder, you should be able to clear level 5. At least it's the most difficult part for me. :D

It's all downhill from there, SS! Hope to see you up with me on level 11 soon.

I did spend a lot of time on level 8.
