I am considering buying a GP32, it looks really sweet. But I was wondering if anyone here has got one and what your thoughts are about it? The emulators looks really tasty.. I would love to be able to emulate an Atari ST or a Spectrum on a GP32... but does it really work well??

So far, it works pretty well. Most of the emus are still well in development and can only get better from people using them and noting all the bugs and incompatibilities still around. The great thing is, there's just about nothing it isn't able to do currently!

Yeah, it's great that anyone can create software for it. And the fact that it can playback DivX files is brilliant! Could be very useful when I want to show video previews for clients... I dont think I have much of a choice .. I have to buy one.. :D

this thing looks great!! does it really only play pc games though?? i went and looked around at a few different sites and it seems that you load shit on to it through your computer. it's a cool idea but doesn't it seem more like a fancy palm top computer more then a video game console to me

There is a couple of games available for it, not that many at the moment... Check out: http://english.gamepark.com/ I think the games are distributed on Compact Flash cards... not sure though...

It's pretty hard to find any information about it ... only found a few reviews...

It's a Korean system, but I don't know if they plan to release it in the US or not. Thankfully most of the games are in English since unlike the US most of that part of the world is bi-lingual (ever notice how many Japanese games are in English? Odd...). I hope they release it in the US, but with Nintendo dominating the market I doubt that will happen.

There's a new front-lit version that costs around $210. Not too bad for a portable emulator with some good dedicated system games.

Yeah the games looks really cool, kinda reminds me of Neo Geo games. I have only found one place that sells them in Europe so far: http://www.gbax.com. £99.99 is a pretty reasonable price. But so far I haven't found anyone that sells any games for it.

Thx for the link Tempest, but I was looking for a place in Europe. Anyway I had a closer look at some of the games. Seems that a lot of them are in Korean. I wonder if there are any "English" developers working on the system, apart from the home made stuff like the emulators...

Well yeah...I have one. It has to be the system I use most.

PC engine emulation is probably its best feature. This pretty much runs 100% without sound. Just downloaded the ST emu yesterday, seems to do a pretty good job. NES and Master system emulation are fine (again, pretty much full speed with sound). I have yet to try the 2600 emu.

Doom now runs perfectly with sound. This running at the full pc resolution.

The MP3 and mod players are very nifty. Divx playback is a good feature, but things generally need re encoding. The tools to do so are freeware, but its still hassle.

The homebrew games are generally of a very high standard.

Plenty more info here http://www.gp32x.com/

Yes. I am a fanboy. That is all.

Looks a good system, but since I gave a Mac, it's pretty useless to me.

Uhmm... because your Mac is already satisfying all your portable gaming needs? :ponder:

http://www.insertcre...uide/index.html You might want to check out the reviews of commercial games here.

Its now possible to download most games and put them on to a smart media card yourself. This generally works out cheaper than getting the games in boxes (and I think you can pay with Paypal).

No, the GP32 links up to your PC (for media download), it won't work on a Mac so if I had one, I'd be limited to playing the poor selection of game carts they have on offer.
Mind, if I had an iBook with MAME, that WOULD be my portable gaming needs sorted. This iMac DOES have a handle on it, but I wouldn't want to carry it far:)

No problem, I am primarily planning on using the DivX feature to playback my own video sequences, since I work with film & video production. Great to bring along when I want to show my clients progress on their productions, or indeed to bring along to show my demoreel. I think I read somewhere that the GP32 is capable of sustaining a data rate of 150KB/S. And at a video resolution of 320x240 that’s pretty good. To bad it hasn't got video ouput...

Pie: Thanks for the link.

Plenty of Mac GP32 utilities. :D

Plus, if all else fails, you can run Virtual PC.

Lik-sang ships to me out of Germany, so you could try looking at their site. They have a GP32 section though I don't know what is available for it so I don't know how good of a selection they have. They've been great to deal with for Neo Geo Pocket stuff so far.

Hi !

The GP32 is really a great piece of hardware. The best emus so far :
- PC Engine
- Master System/game Gear
- Megadrive (still unreleased)
- Atari ST
- NGPC
- SNES

and many many more (2600, nes etc)
Most of them are still in development.
