Sorry there's no link, the whole story was/is secret and I'm not allowed to say more at this time :(

It was just to say that there's still a chance to see an Atari hardware in the future.

Im quite skeptical about that, I do not forsee Infogrames (Atari) getting into the console buisness, I do not think it would be profitible for them with big companies like Nintendo Microsoft and Sony as your competition, even with the Atari name backing them. But ya never know.

I think that the GE "Edison" console will be much better and will blow this infogrames console out of the water. I heard that it has a 512-bit GPU and uses a 128-bit cell processor that will to 10.5 TFlops.

How can you be so sure ? ;)

At this time there nothing to discuss about it, the release of the console I'm talking about has been canned by Atari.

Still, there is a big chance for the hardware to be released under another brand, if this happens I think I'll be allowed to share the story.

Bruno Bonnel wants to release an Atari hardware... one day or another... if the company can survive ! :ponder:

I do hope someday this leads to a new Atari System. I'll be there, no matter how bad it does, I'll be there. Atari Rulez baby. :D

Atari Lives, but then again, in the hearts of many, Atari will never die.

Atari was born by making great games. That's where they should focus their talent.

The logo is still ugly and the middle bar looks nothing like the item it represents.

If the whole logo is indeed meant to represent a game of Pong, then the middle bar never looked like the item it represented :P

Heard it from your cousin's roommate's dad's friend, huh? Sorry, but I call bullshit on that. Infogrames is in no position to make consoles aside from the all-in-one games like that joystick that played 2600 games.

The only way I can see an "Atari" console coming out anytime soon is if Atari teams up with a bigger company like Panasonic (although after the 3D0 and M2, I imagine they're done with video games) that can do all the work and slap the Atari logo on it. But if that happened, I'm sure everyone around here would be registering their disgust about how the system is "not really Atari".

Do you really think a 4th console can survive anyways? Just look at the response the Phantom has gotten so far...

I agree that branding at some point down the road is a possibility, but I'll eat my shorts if Atarigrames releases a console they developed from scratch themselves. It takes an enormous sum of money and a great deal of time to develop the hardware, the development tools, the software libraries, and so forth. To speak nothing of distribution, marketing, signing on third-party developers, developing in-house software for the unit, the inevitable tech support and related infrastructure, and so forth.

Microsoft has spent unspeakable gobs of money developing and marketing the X-box. Infogrames is not in a financial position to even consider going that route, which is why I say the only reasonable possibility would be the branding of someone else's console. But I personally don't think that will happen either.

Because you haven't heard about this project, it doesn't exist, huh ?

You know, the fact that you trust me or not... doesn't matter at all ;)

I've spoken with people from Infogrames and from another company, and the best proof is one contract sitting on my hard drive...

I'd really love to share this story with you guys since it was a *really* interesting project, but today I can't. Maybe in a few months, if the thing is released.

Moreover, my point was at the begining of the thread, that Infogrames/Atari is looking on the hardware side of the market. Nothing more :)

Money was one good reason for the cancellation of the release. I agree with you, Infogrames is in a bad financial position :ponder:

Well there is some things that hard to believe with out hearing about it yourself, not through a boy, "i wish i could tell ya the whole story". Theres a lot of that now a days, people make up crap with nothing to back it up. Excuse me for being skeptical, how the heck would I know if you really knew someone from Infogrames. Its like saying, hey, I talked to some people from THQ today and they informed me that there were highly considering entering the console business, what you want proof? Oh well I dont have any, Im not allowed to say anything about the project. Wouldnt you be the least be skeptical?

Of course, I see your point. The announcement of the release (like I said, no more by Atari :( ) should be done this month or in june, so I'll be back on this topic at this time ;)

One of my sources sent me this top secret mock-up of the new Atari console. Rumor has it that it will include an amazing new Pac-Man game by Tod Frye. We will definitely see these by Christmas.

The logo looks okay to me. It's just been modernized. All companies modernize their logos over time. Like IBM. Their logo today is not the same as it was in 1980. Why should Atari stay stagnant?
