I've been thinking of taking up an on-line roleplaying game because I enjoy wasting my life away. Anyway...

I'm not quite sure what to start up again. I used to play Diablo II like mad, but stopped shortly after the expansion pack was released because cheating was out of control and the game had grown boring. However I hear Blizzard is finally releasing a new patch that might make the game exciting again. I also have a few friends who still play that have been bugging me to start again.

On the other hand I played PSO for awhile and I liked it. The problems were that there was no keyboard (solved that problem), and the $10 a month fee was annoying me (not that I couldn't pay it, but I felt it was too high). I also got the feeling that I had seen pretty much all there was to see in the game, and all I'd be doing now is mass leveling and trying to find a slightly better weapon.

I don't know which to choose. Diablo II is calling me, but PSO is much more recent and slightly "fresher" to me (I only played it for a few months). What does everyone here think? Anyone play both?

Go with Diablo II. Most of the cheating has been killed off. And the new 1.10 patch is supposed to add all kinds of new stuff.

Also, 130,000 people were banned or locked out for a while for cheating.

Ha. I'm gonna sound the Devils Advocate here but...
get PSO.
It's just much more involved than Diablo, not only because of the closer 3rd person view of your character. The design is beautiful and the music and sound effects really heighten the mood. Although PSO (like Diablo) is just a modern day 'Gauntlet', the illusion of 'being there' that PSO creates really makes it stand out. It's wierd, since they turned the DC servers off, I've really missed that world. As soon as they release a keyboard, I'll get online on the GC :)

They have keyboards. Datel sells them (in the US now) for around $30 I think. I got one.

Tempest:

How is the keyboard? I'd like to get one (two, actually as my wife and I play PSO online together with friends of ours) but I've heard differing opinions as to the quality.

As to which game - I say PSO but then again my family is sort of addicted. :D

I haven't used it yet, but it looks to be a normal keybaord with an adapter on the end. The instructions say that it has the GC controller buttons mapped to it as well.

I would still go with Diablo II, see how everything is now. Maybe the game changed some. Better than paying a fee every month.

i was a PSO junkie for months, and this was the original DC version. The cube version does have double the levels, and it has the Ultimate difficulty which is a complete monster if you build up your character to that point.

I would look at it this way. You already have Diablo II. So play it for a while and if you don't like it go get a PSO game... I'd rather Phantasy Online for cube than PSO... :D
