nobody has mentioned Sin and Punishment, and the original Bangai-O :)
Oh, you wacky importer you.

Bangai-O was great on DC though. Old school 2D action, but probably only a mid-90s system coulda put out so many cute little sprites. I have a FAQ at GamwFAQs for it, the only complete walkthrough.

No offense, but I wouldn't really call Mario Golf and Mario Tennis "sports" games...

as someone I once knew said ... if there's a ball in it, it's a sport, no ball, not a sport... I guess that applies to "virtual" balls as well :)

They're sports games, Nintendo style.

I agree with Kisrael's list. Anyone getting their first N64 should check those games out first. I'd like to add Ogre Battle and Resident Evil 2.

Res Evil 2 I particularly enjoyed as I hate the standard "survival horror" controls, but I remember on the N64 version you could change the control scheme. I'm not sure if other versions of RE2 on other systems allowed this but N64 has the best control setup.

I personally thought the Nintendo 64 and Playstation were both awesome systems.

Stuff like Twisted Metal 1, 2, Jumping Flash, Warhawk, Final Fantasies, Chrono Cross, etc rocked back in the day on the Playstation

...and stuff like Mario 64, Wave Race, F-Zero X, Zelda games, Conker, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, Paper Mario, Banjo, Jet Force Jemini, KI Gold rocked on Ninitendo 64 back in the day.

Both the Nintendo 64 and Playstation had some great games!

As mentioned the N64 had a much smaller library than the PSX, though it tended to have a lower percentage of garbage (though it did have some major stinkers). As mentioned anything by Nintendo, or Rare, tended to be at least well done. Things from the cross-platform guys (especially stuff which started on the PSX or PC) often was less impressive.

Rogue Squadron is my favorite for the N64. With codes you can fly several other ships. What I most liked about the game is that you could fly around and do whatever the hell you wanted to do. Once you mastered the controls, it was fantastic. I bought the Xbox version used and returned it the next day. It sucked. I have wondered if the GC version allows a lot of freedom like the N64.

I'm not sure if I get what you mean, about "whatever the hell you want to do"...N64 Rogue Squadron was entirely mission-centric, though you had some flexibility in what you did. I only played a little bit of the PS2 version, so I don't know if it was less flexible.

On the other hand, only GameCube has the sequal that's a direct successor to the N64 version, the Rogue Leader series. It's generally better regarded than its StarFighter cousin, so chances are it's what you're looking for. It's a wonderful game, especially the Battle of Endor with its swarms of tiefighters. I'm way jonesing for Rogue Strike...
