Click here, and read the last paragraph of this article from GameSpot.

Did you ever think this day would come? Atari is publishing a compilation of Sega arcade conversions on a Nintendo system. I'm almost tempted to buy the European release just for the novelty factor alone! 8)

The "Atari" that's producing this Sega game compilation for a Nintendo system is not even the original Atari, but a European company that's engulfed previous game companies (including what was left of the original Atari) to become what it currently is.

I wish you people would shut up. The original Atari SUCKED ASS. They treated their programmers like crap, made stupid business decisions, put out sh.tty games like Pac-Man, and ultimately bellyied up (dead).

Infogrames is 100 times better. They are still alive and well, and putting out kickass games.

your comments have been reported to the moderators. you have no business being at an atari site if you feel this way.

True, but depending on who you speak to, the "original" Atari ceased to exist in either 1998, 1996, 1984, 1978, or 1976. The current Atari might not be the "original" Atari, but they are still Atari all the same!

But the thing is when a company gets bought out by another corp. the new owners tend to shove their philosophy down the throats of the company they bought, in effect changing it from what it once was. Sometimes that's good, but most times I'd say bad.

Regardless, when I see the Atari name or logo I just get excited. I mean come on it's Atari!

That's sort of the point... after Nolan Bushnell sold Atari to Time-Warner, it could be argued that the new company was no longer the "real" Atari. Further sales just made things worse.

In my opinion, the current Atari is a lot more "real" than the company has been at least since the Jaguar. At least you don't get weird intro screens on games telling you the game was actually made by Hasbro or Infogrames.

Yeah, seeing the Sega, Nintendo, and Atari logos on three subsequent intro screens would be quite a sight!

Personally, I'd like to see them collaborate on some sort of project.... Like Mario and Sonic flying around shooting Asteroids or something.

Hi, I was watching TV the other day and I cought a program in TLC about the video games in the 80's and Nolan Bushnell said "Selling Atari to Time-Warner was the most stupid thing I ever did" I don't think Atari was that bad, not for nothing Infogrames or whatever the name of that company is, it's changing the name to Atari ;)

I think ElectricTroy is entitled to his opinions just like everyone else.

Just because one is on an Atari-centered forum doesn't mean that one must look at Atari with rose-colored glasses. One can still celebrate what Atari did without celebrating how they operated as a company.

Lots of people HAVE stated opinions which denounce the way Atari was run... not necessarily in this thread though... The problem with ET is the way he states them...

Or, to put it another way:

I wish you (cryptik76) would just shut up! ElectricTroy is just a self-aggrandizing know-it-all who is just about ready to ordain himself a gaming scientist!

See my point? :D
