I bought this game last week, and now I can't get it out of my head! This game reminds me of that old musical shooter classic Gyruss, but this is far more psychodelic and intense. AWESOME.

I'm frustrated right now though. I have tried and tried and tried to beat the final boss and free the woman, but I keep getting overwhelmed by missiles. I can't get past that stage.

Was there ever a sequel?

I thought the final boss was pretty easy actually... once you blow up a piece of the ring, immediately start firing at the spire above Eden... you can hit it before it even becomes visible. The first two times, you should be able to bust it up and make it retreat before the missiles even come out. Overdrives are your best friend for the next two strikes though. If possible, get good enough at beating the "pre-bosses" so that you get to Eden with four overdrives, and you should be set. Plus, I don't think you can actually get hit while you're firing at the rings... at least, I've never been hit there. Some powerups also show up while you're fighting the last boss, so keep your eyes open.

Also keep in mind that unless you beat the game in the final form (The spinning baby), you don't get the "good" ending. I still haven't managed to do this, but I've gotten REALLY close (I was in 6th form, and only one powerup away from final form :( )

I've been playing this game a lot over the last week or so, and I'm halfway through the Direct Assault modes... they take forever though, and I feel completely drained after playing this game for the hour or so that it takes... but damn, it's worth it!

Oh, and as for the trance vibrator... what exactly are you meant to do with this? I mean, I always stick in a rumble pack for this game on the Dreamcast, but aside from sexual uses, what did they intend? It's not like you can strap it to your back or anything...

Urban myth/Not true. The vibrators were intended to be placed underneath a pillow to vibrate your body. I tried to buy one, but the idiot in Taiwan was charging $150 plus $20 shipping! So I decided to just forget about.

REZ FINAL BOSS: I thought I have to blow up the bottom spire first before I hit the top spire?

It's frustrating how they put up credits even if you lose. I'm like: Did I win or lose? Then 5 minutes later I see: "She's still trapped inside." Grrrr.... They should not have credits unless you actually beat the game.

I've beaten the final boss without ever shooting at the bottom spire at all. As far as I could tell, it was just missiles coming out of there anyways.

The only way that you don't see that message is if you beat it in your final form (the baby). Even if you completely destroy the boss without getting hit once, but you're only the wireframe, you'll still see that message.

However, I once played all the way through Direct Assault, and died at the last boss (which was really harsh, since there was only a sliver of life left on it)... but it still unlocked the next mode for me. I think even if you lose at the final boss, you still get credit for beating the game. I could be wrong though.

In direct assult (my fav mode) you get credit for "finishing" the game and
for finishing the game in the form you chose.
I'm past final form and up to the Morilian (Space channel five Alien) and aside
from being really cool (left, right, shoot, shoot :D ) He only has one form so
if you get hit "once" your outta there :(

Oh and the final boss never phased me. I just shoot at the bottom spire.
Hold your aim on it, max out the attack then 'immidiatly' do it again.
Just as fast if not faster than power ups because it doesn't target those
other things floating around ;)

REZ+surround sound=WOW

Yes, another very underrated and fun Sega game. This is one of those games we'll never trade it. It's got all the fun of a shooter, and really kick-ass music. I'd go play it now, if it not for the fact I'm trying to get one of my PSO characters to level 101 so I can equip some goofy armor...

I finally picked up this game last weekend. Lots of fun..the sheer atmosphere of this game is awesome. Add that to the fact my friend is ordering himself the game (and me the trance vibrator) and soon it will be better. One problem though-

Does anyone have a spare box+manual for me? Mine was loose

I agree, Rez is a great game. It has incredible music and is a game that can be played for a long time just to experience. IMO its one of the best on PS2 and it helps that I love the techno/trance too.

Rez rocks! I wish I had a copy. I don't want to pay eBay's high prices for a copy.

Panzer Dragoon Orta on Xbox plays similarly. Is it the same engine? It's just not as psychedelic and Tron-esque as Rez.

The original Panzer Dragoons always played like Orta/Rez -- which is why I'm surprised that Rez rated so well. The graphics and music are enjoyable and all, but the gameplay is almost identical to Panzer Dragoon. (Which itself is just the next step up from Afterburner/Novastorm.)

Bah, it's all just Space Harrier with different graphics and sound.

Space Harrier is just a scrolling shoot-em-up done with zoom rather than scroll. And scrolling shooters are just Space Invaders with a moving background.

So, really, Rez is just Space Invaders with better graphics and sound.

:D
