I just see this as a choice of whether you want a game player or an all-out entertainment system (something 3DO tried to aspire to but could never achieve, perhaps?).

I don't understand the issue.
1st people complain that PS2 and Sony sucks because their console is lame and always breaks and the DVD player is shit. (I've had my PS2 since day 1 with no issue, and I didnt buy it to play DVD's altho I was using it for some time as a DVD player with no complaints)

Now Sony comes out with an upgraded entertainment package, addressing some of the major complaints certain people had. ( Built in wireless remote, upgraded DVD etc... ) and now Sony sucks because they are draining the hell out of their console...Ummmm man there's no pleasing some folk. I say if you hate Sony don't pay attention to their product line, If you're happy playing games and don't care about using your console to watch movies, don't buy this. Whats the big deal??? :?

for some people it is just fun to bash Sony, cause they are the sole reason why Sega is out of gaming and Nintendo hasn't come up with an original game idea in 10 years. It is easier to make Sony the scapegoat cause they screwed Nintendo back with the SNES-CD add-on.

I don't understand it either cause there is a great amount of hatred towards Sony in general here but I've said things like that before and just been called a fanboy.

Guess it takes one to know one :x

When you buy the first version of any console, you know what you're getting into. Some people complain when the system price drops as well. Hey, you paid extra for the right to have it early.

Through the life of the system improvements are expected to be made. Sony has used 7 different DVD systems since they introduced the PS2. The have a responsibility to improve their system. They have a right to release new additions.

It is idiotic to say that the PSX "screws over" current users in any way. If you don't want the features, don't buy it. The standard PS2 will still be fully supported and fully viable. Most people will still choose to pay less for the stripped-down model.

So did Starpath "screw over" Atari users by releasing an upgrade then?

You have NO VALID REASON to be angry. You're just throwing a temper tantrum.

Sony takes the PS2 and upgrades it with DVD-burner and hard drive. SO WHAT? Why should this get you or anyone else angry? Certainly no sane person.

I like my PS2. It plays the games that I want, plays DVD movies and CDs. The fact that the new model might have some additional features is nice but given the fact that its initial price is probably going to be high, I will wait before I consider getting the new model.

As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Better do some more research, you have it 100% backwards. It was Nintendo that backed out of the Sony deal at the last second.

Don't get down Jerry. After all, when it comes to Sony FACTS, not fiction or rumor, you're the only source that I believe or trust, and any smart person on these boards or RGVC feels the same. :D

Sorry that didn't mean to come out like that. I know you are right and know the whole story but I'm just sick of having the Nintendo and Sega fanboys consistantly askew their view of the facts to piant Sony in a horrible light.

My most humble appology for mis-representing my thought. I meant no slander, ill-will towards you in anyway.

While I have no animosity towards having a PS2.5. I like playing my Playstation products. I do fell slighted by Sony. Jerry knows the full story of false advertising and the promised DEMO DVDs that SONY has failed to deliver and lied to me and others on many occasions about shiping them soon. Although, I am no Nintendo fanboy, I can say that their customer service is the best of all 3. I live down the road from M$ and big N. M$ turns me away at the door telling me to call their customer support line as the have outsourced all their support and I find it rather impersonal. Nintendo has a very nice customer service center in Redmond and a neat museum. They have always fixed or addressed my questions free of charge. I have always walked away from there with some cool goodies for my game room or my son when I visit. Sony and M$ should take note of this.

Its not that i dont like sony, its just that sony is nothing more then a name like Nike that people are attracted to. Remember the playstation had tonnes of titles but what percentage where actually any good? Sony will get it wrong as most companies, IMHO it was the PS2. My reasoning is that i already owned a DC and thought the ps2 would be more of an upgrade. I remember the early titles not being very good and they havent advanced much, things like jaggies really piss me off and there seems to be a lack of control with the over all system. I think this revised machine will probably be quite good if you havent already got a ps2. I''ll be waiting for the ps3 and this time avoiding the hype, It may turn out to be ok.

WHOA.......come on now!

I completely reject your claims of my knowledge to any false advertising. NEVER have I witnessed this in any capacity at SCEA, it would never be tolerated. Here are the facts Lee based upon my knowledge of the original offer and your prior emails to me.

The original launch model PS2 included an offer of a free demo disk (DVD?) to be mailed out at a later date after the warranty card was returned. I understand you did this and yet never received the disk. You emailed me (year ago?) and asked me to get you a disk or find out what happened. I personally went to the Manager responsible and explained your plight. She said an outside fullfillment company was contracted to ship the disks and that yours should have shipped. She offered me the latest demo disks to send you but could not offer the ORIGINAL demo disk as they were all gone by that point. Consumers that called about not getting the disk were sent a later version as the original was out of stock and would not be reproduced. I passed along the offer to you and you declined as it was not the actual "launch" demo disk. Is this not correct Lee?

SCEA is far and away the most ethical and consumer friendly company I have ever been associated with. Between my 7 years here and 8 at Atari I can tell you flat out the old Atari could not hold a candle to SCEA with respect to ethics or customer service.

I conceed that you did not get the disk, you should have, but please don't blow the story into some false advertising scheme when it wasn't IMHO.

Call it what you want. But when someone advertises to send you something in return for you providing them with personal information and doesn't deliver, that is what I call FALSE ADVERTISING, misrepresentation, or a flat out liar. A couple of calls to SCEA and emails (one or 2 which I FWD to you Jerry) also promised resolution, but never did. I know it seems kind of petty now, but back then with a small library of PS2 games and a promise of a DEMO DVD for new PS2 owners, a DVD disc that may possibly show some of the most anticipated games for the PS2 (e.g. Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, etc...), was a big deal. I know of several folks here in WA state that never recieved the DISCs. I know of no one that ever recieved them nor have I ever seen the DVD demo disc that was advertised.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Playstation, but no more than my XBOX or Game Boy Advance.

BTW: Jerry, you offered 12 discs. I was never sure if they were demo discs or games. I told you it wasn't big deal as the DEMO DVD wasn't the issue, the point, rather was the principle of the contract, i.e., disclosure of my personal infomation (address, demographic info, etc..) in exchange for a demo DVD. I don't feel that you are responsible for your employers actions (or lack of, in this case), and I don't expect you to resolve this. I only let you know as I thought you may be able to shed some light on what happened to the demo DVDs and to let you know the troubles I went through in trying to get one. I know I am not alone.

Take care,
-Lee
