Has anyone heard of this? it's a first/third person shooter. I've only seen it in one place, but it is an arcade cabnet, the one i saw had three linked for death match. It`s made by Atari, and i think it was made around 1999 or 2000. Does anyone know where i could download a rom and emulator to play this or have anymore info about it??

This game is completely awesome. I've played it a bunch at Gameworks. The game lets you register your name so as to save score and rank. And as far as I know, they only come in triple cabinets, but it's possilbe that dual and solo cabinets were made. I've only seen the triple version.

The game has about 7 levels, I think, and you are on a time limit to defeat the boss. You gain extra time by defeating enemies and picking up the little time icons. Control consists of five buttons for your left hand - forward, back, left/right sidestep, and jump - as well as an analog joystick for your right hand, which controls turning and aiming, and also has a trigger for firing, plus a thumb button to discard a special weapon. You can switch between third and first person views. Multiplayer games can either be played cooperatively, or in a deathmatch free-for-all.

Sadly, no home version was ever released. It's a shame, because it would work great with a PS2 controller, and either split screen play, or firewire networking.

There was also a sequel called The Grid, which was again produced in three player cabinets. However, I think you can link banks of them together for as many as 6 players. I'd like to know if you could link even more of them for 9 or 12 players. That would be insanity.

This game always struck me as being like a more simplistic Tribes. I wish they had done a console version, but Out Trigger is pretty similar, so i guess i can live with that game instead

I've played a solo cab of this, at a local arcade. This game is bitchin, but I suck at it. Too many controls for me.

Oh, wow, I guess there was a solo cabinet. I wonder if they could still be linked...

Oh, and the controls for The Grid are totally nuts. You have an analog joystick for your left hand that controls your walking speed and lateral movement, as well as a big ass track ball for your right hand that controls aiming. The joystick appears to have at least two buttons on it still, presumably for the same functions. There's also a button near the trackball that activates some kind of special move. I'll have to give the game a try next time I'm in the Detroit area.

Ya know, I didn't pay close attention. The War Final Assault I played was definitely a solo cab, but it could have been a kit. I didn't really look at the artwork to see if it was dedicated or not.

Oh, that could be. But in any case, it is possible to have fewer than 3 of them.

Yeah I guess so :)

Where is this Gameworks you speak of? I'm in Elkhart, IN and I wonder how far Gameworks is from me. I'm like 3 miles from the Michigan border.

The one I've been to is in Auburn Hills, which is near Detroit. They've got several locations.

You can choose from Chicago, Auburn Hills, or Columbus, it seems. Those are the nearest locations.

Hey davidbrit,
I went back to the arcade with the War:FA to check it out again. It was a kit, single player. I'm friends with the proprietor of the Arcade and I had a discussion with him about it. He said he's had a dedicated version of it, and I asked him if it was a triple cab. He says that they aren't triple cabs, but just 3-player linkable. Did you play on an actual single cabinet built for three? Or was it three Solo cabs linked up?

I'm gonna go back soon and play it again. I think I can get used to those crazy controls. I tend to want to move the gun control for movement instead of the movement stick. I keep getting confused. I guess they tried to make it like a keyboard/mouse setup on an arcade machine.

I also played some Blasteroids while I was there...oh yeah. Oh, and I also played Raiden Fighters, never seen this one before. I assume its a sequel to Raiden II, however the graphics aren't quite as detailed in some aspects, and the powerups are simpler. But I do like the big assortment of planes to choose from. I'll be playing this one for awhile, I love these shooters.

It could have been three single cabinets linked, but it sure seemed like one long one. I guess that would be a real bitch to ship, though. But I was too busy annihilating enemies to care. Heh.
