Though they say it cannot be played, but there's rumors that the Panasonic version of GCN can play em', it's just a matter of time before someone figures it out....

I love my GameCube and although I appreciate the know-how and yes, talent, it takes to pull off hacks like this, the Gamecube is having enough trouble as it is, you know? :|

piracy was also possible on the N64, but it really was a non-factor. i suppose if mini-DVD-Rs started to hit the market, then the piracy may start to become a problem. but its been two years since the cube was released, and hackers are still taking baby steps. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo did a great job keeping pirates at bay.

Well, for what it's worth, the CG was hacked last year, and people were playing burned DVD's on it. They didn't give any details thou about what they did electronicly. Physicaly, they had to remove the mech from the case to use regular DVD's, beyond that, don't know what else.

Mod chip's will probably start appearing soon for it thou.

What I want to know is, is any one trying to work on a CG emulator for the PC yet? :)

since the cube runs on a powerPC processor, one would think that a gamecube emu would be easier to develop on a mac

Don't own a GC but it looks like it won't be long before you hear the "shiver me timbers" of the pirates knocking on Nintendo's door. The prices drop so fast in the GC lineup it's not even worth pirating stuff. All you have to do is wait like a week and prices are like 29.99. Wish the other consoles would do that. Anyways a big "AHOY Matey" to all the future N-pirates. :D

I'm more interested in the homebrew possibilities for the GCN than for piracy. Most of the games I buy are first party titles anyway, so I have no problem spending money to support Nintendo -- especially since they've done pretty well at making the games :)

Anyway, it's already possible to run code on the GCN -- it just requires using PSO and exploiting a network bug to fool it into running arbitrary code. I've already seen some demos written for the GCN -- I guess now we just need a set of Atari emulators to make it complete :D I know I'd love to have a disc with a 2600, 5200, 7800, and 8-bit emu and a ton of games on it.

I read an article a while back that one reason Nintendo took so long to goto a disc based system was they didn't want their games copied. Like the Playstation. I myself was wondering how long a game cube game would be copied now that 3" dvd are out on the market.

Playstation was pirated when it got really big.
Nintendo nobody really cares about
XBox Runs on a standard pc so why not. Everybody knows about pc stuff.

Later,

Josh
