I guess it depends on whether or not you like RPGs. I'm a big RPG fan so natually I loved Final Fantasy 7.

If you thought Final Fantasy 7 was boring, then you probably won't like most of the RPGs out there.

i am not a rpg fan. iplayed star ocean. and some other rpgs. but i dont like them. i played final fantasy 7 because i really wanted to know what the hype was. and i was hooked to it. the only rpg that i really liked.

I really have no idea if I would like FF7. I don't know anything about the FF series. I can say I really, really got into Shenmue I and II on my DC. Absolutely loved it. Don't know if that means I would like FF, too.

Can also say I tried to play Resident Evil: Code Veronica on my DC and gave up on it. Intro was great, first few minutes were OK, and I really wanted to like this game, but the puzzles were just too confusing. I simply didn't know what to do, unlike Shenmue where I never got lost.

belive me. final fantasy i really one heck of a game :) brain you wont regret it.

even i had cried once. (no its not pathetic) but that was not the aeris part where most people crie. the game really takes you in there. just complete disc one and you will see.

Its the best rpg ever :). if you like shenmue you will definitly like final fantasy 7.

i hear they were remaking final fantasy 7 a few years ago. someone knows more about this? :)

FF7 ranks as one of the best titles of all time.
I'm sure it does. Which doesn't mean everyone will find it enjoyable.

Yeah, I've never been crazy about leveling up.

and with the best story ever (imho) written for an RPG who cares about the boring bits? I got so involved in this game the 1st time around i was having dreams about it, friends of mine where as well.
I've had the same thing w/ Tetris Attack and GTA:VC.

I have recently played it again and was just as addicted the second time around. Magazines to this day compare RPGs to FF7, surely this says something?
Yes, I'm sure it's a grand RPG. And anyone who likes RPGs will love it. The only RPG-ish games I like, though, are "action RPGs", where the combat is interactive. I really don't think it's the genre for everyone.

FF VII is an OK RPG, what made it standout was that it was the first true 3D RPG, and it had incredible CG FMVs (that many people were fooled into thinking the PSX was rendering i might add...)

You mean like when people bought the game because they saw the TV commercials (which were made up of nothing but CG FMV's) and found out that the actual game looks nowhere near as good?

I've had a number of opportunities to get a Playstation for mighty cheap (as low as $40 CDN), and have passed up every opportunity. I'm not a fan of Square's RPG's, and I don't really see much on the PSX that isn't surpassed by something on my Dreamcast. I've pretty much decided that I'll probably never get a PSX anyways... maybe a PS2 when I can get one for (really) cheap, but even that is unlikely.

I agree with you about the controllers too... I've never liked them at all. Too many stupid shoulder buttons (I've always hated shoulder buttons... even on the SNES), shapes instead of letters is annoying, and despite what everyone says, I still don't think it's comfortable at all.

As for the PSOne, frankly, I think I'd rather have an original PSX instead. The PSOne lacks an expansion port, and I prefer the look of the original instead. Only real advantage I see is that the PSOne is smaller, and has a LCD screen made for it (Yeah, it'll work with the PSX, but it won't look as appropriate). At one time, there were no mod chips for the PSOne, right? Is this still the case? I don't pay attention to the PSX scene much...

If you love puzzle games, don't forget to pick up titles like Intelligent Qube, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, and Ballistic. Hell, I'll even include Oddworld and Abe's Exxodus on that list, because they're a really perverse (literally) combo of puzzle games and platforming that's hella fun. :D

Dude , That is sooooo funny, well the tetris part. I agree that not all ppl like the FF games. I didnt like Xboxes HALO which was ultra popular, if we all had the same opinions we'd be getting the same games over and over and over.

I forgot about those games! Don't forget Devil Dice.

Seriously, there are so many games for the system you are bound to like some of them. My personal favorites are:

Persona and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment- best 2 RPGs I've ever played.

Carnage Heart- Very innovative. A war/strategy game where you make battle programs for your robots and they fight according to it! A super-deep game.

Those are some good puzzle games, but some of 'em are rather rare (Intellingent Qube, SPFII, and Devil Dice I think)--I know 'cause I got some of 'em for my Aunt and Mom, and it wasn't always easy.

SPFIIT apparently had another pressing, and so is back down to $30 (instead of the $75 it was going for on the ebay).

The Playstation has a library of over 1000 games (counting just the NTSC U/C, I believe). Sure there's shovelware. But I've got over 100 games that I think are good, and I don't even touch RPGs. I think it would be foolish to dismiss a machine with such a large and varied library simply because you don't like megacorps or Sony in particular, regardless of how hip an attitude it is to have. Hell, if you're like me and buy exclusivelly on the secondary market, Sony doesn't see a dime!

I'm not ragging on you bargora, but I still don't understand why some people feel so personally adamant that Microsoft or Sony shouldn't profit off gaming. If they make a bad product it won't sell, or if they make a good product but can't market it well (Sega Dreamcast) it will fail of it's own accord anyway. What's so evil about them making money? If they don't make money, they don't make consoles. If they don't make consoles, we don't play games. Maybe the profit margins on brand new games could come down a little ($50 always seems high to me, I could more easily live with $40) but other than that, I have no complaints and I happily give Sony whatever their share of the profit is on every PS2 and PS1 game I buy new is. In fact I often prefer to buy new simply because in this town the difference between new and used is usually only $5.

Oh, MegaManFan, I certainly wouldn't take it personally. Actually, my reason for not buying new is based purely in my overwhelming cheapness. I should have said "nearly exclusively", as I am perfectly happy to buy new games that sell for $20 or under! Unfortunately, my usual goal is to pay less than $15 for a game, which for current-gen (PS2/Xbox--no GCN yet) games usually only happens used, and only after at least a year past the release date. I did buy Steel Battalion new, though, and I'll probably buy Gradius V, R-Type Final, and Ikaruga (when I get a GCN) new at full price.

I could have sworn that somebody in the thread was saying that they didn't want to support teh eVil s0ny megacorp, so I was just saying that you can go ahead and hate Sony but still enjoy Playstation games with a relatively clear conscience by buying used. Looking back at the thread now, I can't seem to find it. Anyway, I also think that being anti-Sony is a silly attitute to take, but people just get bees in their bonnets sometimes. Every once in a while I even feel a little bit bad about not buying new games very often, but my wallet usually starts feeling even worse when I browse the new games racks.

Besides, if I (and people like me) didn't buy the used Gradius III & IV and Ico that chumps traded in for (admittedly not much) credit, the game shop wouldn't take them in the first place or would give even less in trade, and then how would said chumps be able to buy Madden Under Fire to keep the corporate machine running?

I am just a small part of the video game ecosystem.

reasons not to like sony...

1. - they are a prominent member of the RIAA
2. - they are a prominent member of the MPAA
3. - they make overrated/shoddy video game consoles
4. - first party games for the previously mentioned consoles are quite often average at best. there are painfully few must own titles
5. - they drove sega out of business based on hype alone, and now seek to do the same to Nintendo

they basically are the ones that profit the most from other people's hard work, and the sheep-herd mentality of the 21st century consumer.

I'd pick one up just to play my Bubble Bobble game as I've mentioned many times. And I'd get a 10% Kmart Discount on top of that. (If I got it at Kmart. But then I'd be supporting Sony. So I'd get one at GameStop, but they only have the originals. I'd rather have a new smaller one.) Maybe one day. Though, if I did, and I didn't have a Super-8 yet, I'd meed a system switcher with 6 ports. I've seen them only go to 5 and I'd rather not keep linking them together. LOL.

As soon as I get some free cash.
