This is pretty far afield from what we usually talk about, but I can't help myself:
We attended a local parade a couple weeks back, and my wife got suckered into paying $4.00 for two of those glowstick thingies for herself and my 3-year old son. You know the kind, they're about 8" long, and can be clipped into a bracelet or whatnot. You break some kind of little glass ampule and the thing glows for a few hours.
I kind of kidded her about it afterwards, and said she should just go onto eBay and get a damned case of the things for $20. I was just joking, but for some reason that got her thinking, especially with the 4th coming up, so lo and behold she ended up buying a hundred of them off of Yahoo auctions for six bucks. (I guess she had looked and gotten frustrated that so many eBay resellers jacked up the shipping, so she went with what she thought was a reasonable deal - "only" $10.00 for shipping a cardboard tube that weighed 1.2 pounds. It WAS sent priority mail and it did come within a couple days, so the seller scammed about $6 right there.)
She's happy she paid so little for 100 glow-sticks (a $200 retail value by festival rates) but I said screw that guy, let's see what he really paid for 'em by looking up the importer. Except we can't! THE SELLER CUT THE IMPORTER'S NAME OFF THE TUBE WITH AN XACTO KNIFE! He then covered it up with one of those Avery Mailing labels, which I thought was really very funny.
IMHO, such ratlike behavior isn't warranted on a $16 sale.
