Looks nifty, even if it is a bastardization of three different systems.

Brazil has some bizarre rules regarding consumer products that force manufacturers to build them in Brazil.

Gradiente was the manufacturer of the 2600A in Brazil for Atari in 1982. This was in a factory in Manaus half way up the Amazon. Brazil is PAL M and it's strange variation on NTSC, it's only PAL in the sense the color burst is out of phase each line and other than that it's NTSC. I suspect their relationship with Atari is how they got the 7800 mold.

Perhaps the U.S. to a point should say. If you want to make that product. We have everything here in the U.S. to make it. So you cannot import them. Ofcourse, this would be in reason. Then again, I tried a few made in U.S.A. mother boards (Yes actually in the states, Not off shore) and they all died asap.

Gee, why can't the Atari 7800 have the same kidney-shaped controllers of the Genesis?

Made in the USA is a warning label, not a badge of pride. Anything made in America will collapse in a hurry. Even if German workers build something from Japanese parts, or vice versa, it will fall apart if it was built in any territory operated by the United States government. No matter how much effort and error checking. If you have something to build, take it to Canada and build it. I think it's an old curse.
