Hi all,

Just getting back into gaming and trying to fill in some holes of the popular games for most of my consoles.
Of course, I have a PSOne and recently purchased most of the "MUST HAVE" titles on Ebay. Of those, Metal Gear Solid, is considered one of the Top 10 if not Top 5.

I've read multiple reviews on the web, read the manual from cover to cover several times and read briefly some FAQs, however I just can not get into this game. What is/was all the hype about? Am I missing something? Everyone speaks so highly of this game.

I am currently on the third level and am frustrated by the touchy controls.

Perhaps others can enlighten me on this game. Maybe open my eyes to this game.

Would love to hear other peoples opinons, game tips/hints and comments.

Thanks in advance,
ant

I don't get this game either. Overall, I think it's pretty crummy, but it wasn't the first time that I've disliked a popular game and it wasn't the last.

The best I've had it explained to me was the sheer immersiveness of the game. Most people who have liked it told me that it was like they were on a spec ops mission. Plus, they liked the variety of the reactions of the opponents.

BTW, what are the "must haves" of the PS1 library?

If you enjoy games with good storylines and stealthy gameplay, then this game would be easy to get into.

IMHO, you'd have to be a fan of the Metal Gear series in order to totally appreciate it.

I have beaten both MGS and MGS2.

The trick is to take it easy with the game.

I actually liked the PS1 Metal Gear. I think more than anything it was the whole presentation of the game. It felt like I was playing a character in a movie. It was also pretty inventive with cool boss fights like psycho mantis. However I can't stand MGS2. I played the Xbox version and beat it in a couple of hours(it's not hard to do just skip every cutscene, the whole game is cutscenes).

If you're one of those people who absolutely hates cut-scenes, stay far, far away from MGS and MSG2. If, on the other hand, you don't mind movie sequences along with your gameplay, you'll love them.

I know I did.

I sold my MGS2 shortly after buying it due to the painfull story and FM"V's. On the other hand i havent played MGS and think i might give it a go. It was one of those games that gained recognition after its release so someones done something right. Also it is apparently one of the only games that takes advantage of the PS2's playstation options.

MGS for PSX was one of my favorites games. The end it's pretty cool. Now the MGS for PS2... I dunno, I played it once and that's it, just my .02
