Midway just announced a monster compilation disc called Midway Arcade Treasures for release this fall on Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Microsoft X-Box. It will have the following games on it:

Spy Hunter
Defender II
Gauntlet
Joust
Paperboy
Rampage
Marble Madness
Robotron: 2084
Smash TV
Joust 2
Bubbles
RoadBlasters
Blaster
Rampart
Sinistar
Super Sprint
720°
Toobin
Klax
SPLAT!
Satan's Hollow
Vindicators

GameSpot reported this exciting news tonight, which you can read if you click here. The disc will also include interviews with the creators and developers, as well as multiplayer support for two players. Hopefully, the games that originally supported three or four players will also do so here.

This is one of the most exciting video game announcements of the year for me! :D I'm looking forward to learning more about it!

Sweet Jesus on Toast! That's a lot of games! This is the direction Classic Comps should go; more for less.

I hope this sells well so we can get more such collections.

There are too many games that we haven't gotten on the big systems. I want to see the Centuri line released. Challenger is my second favorite game of all time (after Tempest). Atari had announced it for the 2600 but nothing came of it.

Al, if the Analog controls of the PS2 both work for Robotron & Smash TV Then I'd say that's the version to get.

I'm 100% sure I will buy as well. Yumm... :D :D

IIRC, Sega is the ONLY company still in business that hasn't released a compilation of its classic games. Konami did (and IMHO was the best comp on the PS1), Atari, Midway, Namco, etc...

Inky they had the 6 pack on Genesis, the Sega Classics, 4 in 1 & 5 in 1 for the Sega CD, then there were the Sega Ages for Saturn, and of course the Sega Smash Pack for DC, as well as PCs. They have also put classic games in newer games like, Shenmue, and other I believe, and there was the Phantasy Star collection just released for GBA, and they are now working on updated versions of there classic games for PS2.

The problem with seeing their name on some of the classic arcade stuff, is alot of the ownerships change hands, and they may not be able to release some of their older Sega/Gremlin games anymore?
:ponder:

But there have been some Sega compilation discs out there. :)

Edit: I really shold learn to spell. :dunce:

Initially, I was disappointed to see that the original Defender was not on this list.

Then I saw Satan's Hollow and Vindicators. Since those are on there, I think I can forgive them.

But I'd much rather have original Defender than Splat or Bubbles.

Very cool compilation anyway. I'll be buying this as soon as it comes out.

Yeah I'd probably get the ps2 version. Of course the 2 analog sticks on the Xbox work just as well for Smashtv/Robotron (as evidenced when you play Xbox Mame) but since they are playable in mame why bother with the xbox version? :P What we'd be getting this compilation for is the nice 'extras' they throw in like the interviews, and of course the packaging. Most people prefer the ps2 controllers anyway. So that's my choice. :)

my hands are too big for the ps2 controlleers, its likee i have to break my thumbs and use the dislocated joint to manipulate the analog pads, otherwise i have to bend my thumbs in totally painful ways to get to them.
