I went to gamestop and picked up a new Playstation, model # 39001 I think it's the newest, it was bundled with the network adaptor, I was sort of bummed with this bundle, the adaptor was pre-installed, and I was left with nothing to do but plug it in, and keep going from where my old PS2 left off. sort of crapy if you ask me, whatever happend to "some assembally required? what ever happend to countless hours up at night trying to figure things out? what ever happend to my idea of fun, now all thats left to do is play!!! I WANT TO MESS WITH THE HARDWARE!!!!!!!!!!! I guess the new one is doing fine, it's just, it looks so much like my old PS2 that I sometimes go into the little emotional upsets about how much I loved my old one... well maybe not.

*thanks his lucky stars*

I've had my PS2 for almost 2 years and haven't had anything that resembles a prob, and only had a small overheat issue with my original PSX. WOW never knew just how lucky I am apparently.

But I will say that is a umm "creative" way to get rid of an unwanted system  :ponder: :x

That wasn't brilliant. They make replacement parts, you know, not to mention there are FAQs on solving almost every PS2 problem known, even how to gut it and turn it into a PC.

I hope the PS3 will be less flimsy. The PS2 looks like a good gust of wind would blow it apart.
Haven't had any major problems so far with my PS2 apart from it not running one game - Fantavision. I've been back and forth to Sony and have tried something in the region of 10 copies of it - they all crash.
It plays everythin else just fine. wierd.

I'm going to start by KNOCKING ON WOOD.

Now I've had my PS2 since launch day and it has seen a lot of play time and I haven't had a problem yet. I'm hoping it holds out until new PS2s are $79 or $49 and then I'll pick up a replacement or two.

I hope to hell I didn't jinx myself by posting this. :ponder:

I think ive only had 2 replacements. It is unfortunately a shoddy piece of hardware to own. I really dont know how sony got such a good reputation,,,,,, Anyhoo, ive been putting up with jumping discs and extremely loud disc spinning for a while now but this is my last. So do all of your PS2's make too much noise?

Mine doesn't really make too much noise. I think my GameCube makes more noise. Now my Dreamcast is another story!

Nope, but I usually crank up my surround system rather loud when playing :D . But I haven't *knocks on lots of wood* had any problems with my PS2 yet.

VidGameKing : I bet killing that PS2 made you feel good? Sometimes it's actually worth slaughtering something just to get rid of the frustration. I murdered a Mitsumi PC CD-Rom once. When it for the 9535:th time refused to read a perfectly readable CD... Boy that felt gooood... :D

hey man I dont really like the PS2 that much. I would never be proud of doing neardy little things with it. now, neardy things on the XBOX, GC, DC that would be cool, I tolorate the PS2 because of two things. my investment in games, the exclusive titles that I love playing. otherwise I wouldn't have touched a PS2 with a ten foot pole!

on the otherhand this new PS2 is supposed to be the best made yet, and the from here on out, you wont be able to buy a new PS2 without also buying the Network adaptor. which I think is interesting. it's actually a good deal, it's $20 off the price of the network adaptor if you buy it with the PS2. GI said that theis new PS2 was supposed to have a built in Ir port, but I dont see it anywhere. hey and I have a question, what accessories use the fire-wire port on the front?

Not trying to start one of those "which is better debates", but I have to admit I have had some serious quality issues with Sony and Playstation, and we all know how crappy Microsoft is.... that helped me decide to buy a Cube.

Aside from the occasional blinking screen on the NES, I have never had a Nintendo System break on me, save my GameBoy which I dropped.

My PS2 had a problem with reading discs for a while but I shipped it out last December and it works fine now. Even though it was over warranty by over a year, Sony still fixed it for no charge. All I had to do was pay to ship it out to them in Connecticut.

My PS2 works like new now and there hasn't been any problems with it since. I bought it in October of 2001 so it's sort of an older model PS2...not as new.

However, DO NOT play DVDs on your PS2 for extended periods of time. I think that's what causes the disc read error but I'm not sure.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Sony's hardware as much as the next guy, but I'm not about to THROW AWAY anything until I'm sure it can't be repaired for less than I paid for it originally. I have a Gamecube I never play, because I had to get fucking Zelda (now or never, bonus disc) instead of a game I could stand playing more frequently.

I demand Vigilante 8 III!

You're not likely to find a game better than Zelda on any system, PS2, GCN or otherwise. You should play it.

zelda is a RPG, I dont really dig RPGs, It's not my shtick. and as for making sure the PS@ worked or not, or repair? Never repair a modern system, you could never trust it again. I would only repair somthing I knew I could not easily replace.

Spongebob Revenge of the Flying Dutchman is the only game my PS2 chokes on from time to time. It basically plays just fine...but frequently between level loads...it will sit there a really long time. Eventually I get the browser window with the CD in the center of the screen. Click on the X to fire it back up..and I can play again. Might crap again...might not. So far that is the only game to give me any grief on my PS2. However, my PS2 doesn't get as much play as my other systems, or even my DC does. But I have had it since Jan of this year and so far only Spongebob has been an issue in it.

I am pretty sure it is the disc and not the unit on that game. I also have read that Spongebob revenge of the flying dutchman has had problems reading on many a person's PS2 machines.

So far I have been impressed with what I have bought gamewise for it...and I hope that it last me long enough to play what I want to play on it to completion. Hehe...kinda like how I fixed my DC about 3 times so that I could keep on playing Grandia 2 and finally beat that one!!

Zelda isn't a true RPG in the sense of menus and experience points and such.

I've always thoiught it WAS an RPG. But I guess in a sense it is, but not a REAL one. A real RPG would be those turn based ones where you come to an enemy. He attacks, you attack, he attacks, you attack. Then you go off and but a new weapon and sell your old one and to talk to someone you'll hit the "Talk" option from a menu or if you want to look in the grass below, you "Search". Stuff like that.

Zelda is more of an "Adventure" with a few RPG elements and battles thrown in. You don't take turns fighting, it's all real-time.

Though, this would suggest that Final Fantasy VII isn't real either. Since it has a no-longer turn based... I don't know. Maybe they changed the definition now. It's all confusing.

I always thought it was "RPG", and "Turn-Based RPG" as the two bases for what type of RPG one is. An RPG, you have quests, spacific goals, like Medal of Honor, is a "FPS RPG". where as quake 3 areana is just a RPG, because you do nothing but shoot.

And if you added a jump button it would be a platform game:)

It's no genre at all - it's what that vague 'arcade adventure' bracket was designed for.

The GameBoy Zelda had a jump item. I missed it in the others. The feather from Mario 3. That was a cool Zelda. And the Song of the Windfish is a beautiful tune.
