so like I' said in a previous post I just got the new PS2 with Network adaptor to replace my old dead one, and I was reading through the manual just to see what to see, and I start paying more attention to the connections on the network adaptor, and come to find out, it has an IDE port as well as a +12/+5/-12/-5Volt adaptor on it, like I take one of my spare hard drives, (I have a few ten gig and 15 gigers hanging around all been replaced by 20s 40s 80s 180s) but anyways the fit is perfect, I havent tryed placing it in the machine or turning it on yet, I want to find out if it's going to be compatible. but where would I go to find out? what format do I format it in? fat? fat16? fat32? OS2? definetly not NTFS!!!! ha ha :P but also what do I install on it to get it to be recignised? hmm... I cant wait to get it working!!! it's so cool, that I can mess with it. I hope it dosent end up bitting me in the ass!

Wouldn't you need some software to get a hard drive running on the PS2?

I have heard rumors of the Ps2 Hardrive being hacked, I doubt there is any truth to this though.

Hacking the HDD means basically, you may have a chance at hacking Final Fantasy 11, I think Sony took GREAT extremes to see that the HDD won't be hacked very easily. :D

yeah, but, it's a harddrive! there will always be a way to hack a harddrive. They are open books, you just need a machine to read them, and if they use the IDE format then that means that they will be using a relatively common Hard drive format. Most likely Fat16, in order to cope with the large size of the drive but keeping it simple. But here is where they will get you, they will moddify the boot sector, so it is no longer Windows compatible, that way 85% of the users wont be able to hack the system, then they will encrypt the partition table, so no standard Bios could read the fromated size. that will knock out your "basic" linux users, but still I see no reason why someone who knows anything about getting into harddrives could not just buy a drive coppier, not a software program but an actual peice of hardware used to copy harddrives, sector by sector, and just use that same peice of hardware, get the ones that have te ability to plug into a PC and save off a immage, and then figure out a way to get that image onto a blank HDD? too easy.
