Right here is a great site for Atari roms. You can find emulators at digitpress.com and theroms.com

The best Atari emulator I found is called "Stella". Google it. You will get many good matches. The roms are no longer copyright protected, so they are usually on the same sites. Most of the games worked, though a few of the games did not respond to the keyboard or joystick. These were the one referred commonly as "third party" cartridges, and typically weren't games that were worth playing anyway!

As for the NES, I found that none of them work very well. They all seem to be extreme memory hogs, and run slow or crash, so I played some a few times and then got frustrated with crashes and freeze ups, and went back to playing the actual NES in my room. "NESten061b1.exe" is quite user friendly. Some roms did not boot up for whatever reason. That is the best one that I could get to work.

Best of luck, Derek.

We have links to Atari emulators on AtariAge. On the left side of the page you'll see "2600", "5200", "7800", etc. Click on one of those and then "Emulation" and you'll find what you're looking for. For example, here is the 2600 Emulation Page.

I agree that Stella is probably the best 2600 emulator. As for the NES, I use several different ones, but Nesticles and BioNES work the best. Hehe, BioNES even played my rom of Cheetahmen II!

I used StellaX for a number of years, but latley ive swtiched over to z26... it doesnt have as nice of a front end as stella, but it does play a lot more games (especially homebrews!), and the sound seems to be much better! And with the x26 front end for the z26, its almost as easy to use as stella.

But hey, download em both and see which one you like the best

I agree about z26. If you're running Windows, the Windows version of z26 is quite nice and also allows you to run the game in a window. And the sound emulation is the best I've heard from a 2600 emulator. I pretty much run z26Win exclusively now..
