So does mine.. That's why I fork out the cash (and I hate forking out cash for most ANYTHING, so it better be worth it) for a pay newserver. There's easynews.com, giganews.com and usenetserver.com amongst others.

Right now I go with easynews.com since for $15 /mnth it's unlimited downloads. Works great. I think they're offering 3 month deals now too, etc.

Yeah Easynews is great, I think I'm paying $9 for 6GB/month, I'll have to check out that unlimited price, that seems real cheap :)

Newsgroups are the only way to go with emulation these days.

At the present, correct. At least the info pages are still available (which are indispensible when updating sets that are very large). AFAIK the bandwidth has been payed for solely by donations (at a month-by-month basis)...so don't forget about them if you win the lottery ;)

ACK! Sorry I meant to say I go with USENETSERVER.com (not easynews). I don't think Easynews has an unlimited plan. I've edited my post above.. sorry I was pretty tired which is probably why I passed out at 8:30pm last night :D

p.s. If I went with easynews.. I think I'd hit that 6 gig limit in oh.. about 1 day :P After all, a single DVD itself avg's 4.5 gigs already

Take a look for yourself.. here's their daily network status log
http://www.usenetser...com/network.php

At it's best (which is usually) for me it gets 200-300kbs avg download. At it's worst I see it at 100kbs and below or I simply can't login etc. I haven't seen too many problems.. but they do happen . Maybe 2 or 3 downtimes per month that usually last a day or so has been my experience.

I know some people who have cancelled with them because of downtimes. They still work for me though so I stick with them.. I just dig the unlimited downloads. Anyway, it's an easy process to cancel your subscription anytime and jump to another.. these days, you can jump ship multiple times in a day if you want :D

I have used both EasyNews and SuperNews at one time or another. However, my budget got tighter and the choice came down to either a cable modem or the pay newserver. I went with the cable.

Actually, even easier than Usenet for getting complete MAME sets shortly after a new version release is BitTorrent. Look for an announcement on one of the game newsgroups, grab the torrent link they post, and fire away. The more people simultaneously downloading the set, the faster your download will be (BT works the opposite way from normal web downloads in that respect.)

After the initial wave of interest dies down, emule/edonkey is a good place fo find sets because it works (to an extent) like BT does, except instead of sharing one specific file users can share out everything in a given directory as with Kazaa et al. sharereactor.com and jigle.com are usually good places to look for MAME releases.

...speaking of which, I've been too busy to keep up lately, and now I'm about 4 versions back :P
