Was looking at the inventory over at National Console Support and I noticed a listing for Headhunter for the Dreamcast.

Anyone else have this game for the DC? Does it play with the Utopia boot disc? Is it worth the $45 price? I know it by name, but not much beyond that. Is it any good? Hard to play, easy? Fun?

Also saw Ikaruga for $60. IIRC, it's a Raiden-like game. I like Raiden, but I get blown up a lot. If Ikaruga is like that, I know I don't want to spend that much on it. Opinions?

you can get a US release of ikaruga for the cube for 40 dollars, and Headhunter was released for the PS2 in the US.

I dont remember if headhunter was locked out or not, i know that REZ was locked out, and wont work with a utopia or gameshark disc, you may need a mod chip

I don't have a Cube or a PS2, and no plans to get either.

Headhunter sounds like a game I may like. If so, I'd be willing to spend the $$$ for it at some point. I did buy Shenmue 2 for my DC and never regreted it - one of the best video games buys I've ever made . . . next to paying only $9.99 for the original Shenmue!

Yeah hard to beat $9.99 new DC games! ;) I bought tons when they were being marked down. I bought Headhunter too, back before it was released for the PS2. It's a decent game, if you can bare the cutscenes. Graphically it's pretty stunning and it plays well, kind of stealth like Metal Gearish, but with motorcycles thrown in the mix for overall coolness. It plays fine with the Utopia boot disc, haven't ever tried to load it with my gameshark.

And Chrisbid, where did you here that about REZ? I know many people who bought that one, no one I know have any problems loading it. I personally went with the PS2 version of REZ, again with the $9.99 new game prices it's hard to pass up. :) But have wanted to pick up the DC version just the same as its a little different, framrate, and VGA box compatible. I haven't ever heard anyone having to mod their DC to play this game.

i was reffering to the EURO version of REZ for Dreamcast. I got my info from the Dreamcast boards on IGN, i have a modded Dreamcast, so ive yet to have any lockout problems :)

and i didnt think any import games were "self boot" unless its a pirate :?

I've played a pirated copy of Headhunter, and it seems like a good game. I didn't play it that much though, so I can't really give any in-depth information. It's a 3rd-person view stealth game like Metal Gear Solid. The graphics were really nice, and you could do quite a few different moves. If I remember correctly, there was supposedly a motorcycle sequence in there too (although I never got that far).

I wouldn't pay $45 for it, but that's mostly because I'm not a fan of the genre.

If you're a fan of the Dreamcast I'd suggest getting Soul Caliber. Aside the Super Smash Bros. games, this is my favorite. I played a pirated copy for the longest time and finally picked up a legit copy at a pawn shop for a buck (can't beat that price with a stick).

Well, I have an unmodded Dreamcast and ALL the Euro titles work fine with just the Utopia disk or the DC-X disc I have. I've never tried a Japanese import yet though. But the regional "lockout" means that the game will not load on it's own, it needs a loader disc like those above, and that is all. There is NO need for a mod chip, that is only convenient as you don't have to load Utopia or other first. But I have yet to come across a Euro game that won't work on my US DC with the Utopia disc.

HeadHunter rocks and is every bit as good in every way as the PS2 version. Same with Shenmue 2 (DC vs. Xbox). I haven't seen REZ on the PS2. If you have a PS2, fine, get them on it, but if you don't have a PS2, it is worth every penny to get the DC versions.

Headhunter is awesome.
Kinda reminds me of Grand Theft Auto in a way.
Huge city, you get around via a motorcycle.
You play a tough as nails cop tracking down various bad guys and taking them out. You start the game not knowing where you are or why someone wants to kill you.
The puzzles you solve keep the story flowing and there is not alot of backtracking...Like in the RE games. (Altho I hear the ending is rushed and there is a bit of backtracking and lackluster backgrounds towards the end)
You can hide behind crates and there are specific missions where you have to use stealth but in most cases you dont have to.
The graphics are some of the best on the DC.
Its worth the cash if you like this type of game.
Really well done.
