I think I've read one positive review on this game. I always hear people complain about how it's not good because of the different gameplay elements. Personally, I like them, keeps the game fresh. I can see how the first level (though harder than it should be) is the best, but the rest were good, too.

But most impressive, it's a launch title. And for a launch title, it's very good. SM64 and SOTE? Who needs other games? Definitely my favorite N64 Star Wars game, though Rogue Squadron is awesome, too.

I much prefer Rogue Squadrun. I found SOTE WAY too hard. I've never come close to finishing it.

I know what you mean, I thought it was fantastic. I got to the eigth level(There are 10) but I never finished it. I finished the last level with the help of some handy codes, however.

Have you tried the trick where you can control a Wampa? It's load of fun!

It was a very decent game. Especially the first level, but some of the one on one fights were super terrific.

I think, though, that a lot of people (myself included) didn't like its huge, sparsely populated FPS levels, especially when combined with some rather severe difficulty. You'd walk walk walk walk walk, screw up when you finally got to something dangerous, and then have to walk walk walk again if you hadn't gotten to the checkpoint. Even some of the non-FPS levels had that feel if memory servers (it has been a while), like wasn't the Swoop race rather long and difficult?

As part of a larger thing, Shadows of the Empire is interesting; I think it was a unique attempt to do a multi-media (not "multimedia", neccesarily) "expanded universe" project, with the different things showing different parts of the same story. The game wsa Dash Rendar, I think the comics were from the viewpoint of Boba Fett, not sure about the Novels. There were toys released as well. I had a neat book that was all about SotE as large multipronged project.

It is hard but I liked it.I haven't played it in years and I don't own it so I am not sure if I would still like it today.

I love this game. I don't even like Rogue Squadron at all for the 64. I only think SotE and Episode I Racer are even remotely worth picking up. I'd just buy Rogue Squadron for collecting purposes.

See, I just didn't like Pod Racer after awhile. At first it was good, I liked it, but I don't know, I guess I wish a game like Episode 1 on the PSX would've been released for the N64. Now THAT would've been sweet.

I really liked SOTE. It was one of my first N64 games and I liked it's variety and the atmosphere of the game really impressed me. I didn't think it was too hard I felt it was just right. Love the music too especially for cartridge.

Pod Racer had this insane learning curve...
easy, easy, easy, mostly easy, mostly easy, IMPOSSIBLE

if it wasn't for the ability to totally dial down the eney's speed and AI, I wouldn't have seen all that much of this game.

It wasn't even so much that, I guess an attack by stormtroopers is more exciting than a racing game set in the Star Wars universe.

SOTE was a great game for the time. I found it hard on anything except the first skill, so I never saw the REAL ending. "Did he really die? Oh no!"

Did they just force you to die in SotE? I beat the game on Easy, Medium, and Hard, and on Hard I swear I almost made it out but just then I exploded. IMO I think it's impossible to get out alive in the end.

Well, probably. True for my money, neither holds a candle to flying fighter craft in that galaxy far far away.

It'll be interesting how the stormtrooper attack segments of the new Rogue Squadron come out. At least there will always be the traditional flyin' Wedge path, not just the new movie scene Luke way...

That's probably the GC game I'm looking forward to the most. It's going to be hard to top Rogue Leader, but just from the those screenshots, I think they may have.

Given that they've included the original in a two player form, it's gonna be hard for them not to top it...

Out of curiosity, are you more looking forward to Luke (Hoth on foot, Endor on Speederbike and AT-ST) or Wedge (good' ol' spaceships)?

Hard to go wrong with either of them, but probably Luke, the graphics look great, and if the gameplay remains top-notch (and odds are it will), well then I probably won't have time to post here for a few days :D .

I loved the game, never got past the one on one fight with IG-88. But it was a very cool premise and I wished they would do another like it, cause I for one am sick of 40 million rogue squadron wanna-bees

I found IG-88 to be the easiest, actually.

I dunno but I spent like two days couldn't beat him and just gave up on the game

Maybe I should fire up the old N64 and give it a go, any tips?

I dunno, I don't see that many Rogue Squadron wannabes except for the "Starfighter" games. The more dominant genre seems to be "jedi running around with a lightsaber", which is in someways closer to SotE, but not as many interesting parts.

Just shoot him. I forget. It's been so long.

Hi there!

I really like the game, though as others said it is way too hard. And the lack of save spots is really annoying.

I'm currently stuck in the Boba Fett level, and I'm always sitting there for a complete hour playing the level start to finish without any real problems, only to get killed by Boba once again. Bad desgined I think...

But jumping around with the rocket pack is dead cool. I think I even like that more than trashing AT-ATs in the first level :)

Greetings,
Manuel

For some reason I never do well with flying games, and I'm just sick of seeing Nintendo just rehashing rogue squadron. And the jedi hack n' slash is gettin a lil tired as well but they hold my interest better than the flying games.

Nothing personal, but this seems like an unfair way of putting it:

1. All though Rogue Leader was a release title, it's not really Nintendo "rehashing" it

2. They've made two games in "classic Star Wars" mode and one in the "Phantom Menace"...that's really not that aggressive of a schedule.

3. And besides, with all the onfoot and non-starcraft vehicle action, you might be getting your wish...this is probably a lot closer to the varied gameplay of SotE than any other game, except within the limits of what was in the movie themselves, not the extended universe (Swoop bikes, heavy use of jet-packs, duels vs main villains like IG88 and Boba Fett, etc) and not quite so FPS-y.
