Is there any good games on the GC for kids about 4-5?

phew...usually threads with this kind of title aren't quite as nice as this one could be. :-)

Off the top of my head (not even looking at my collection) I think Monkey Ball (or better yet, Monkey Ball 2, though it's not as cheap these days) would be a good bet. The normal game is accesible because of the super simple controls, though might get frustrating (except often kids that age don't even give a dang about getting through a game) but the minigames...the kids will almost assuredly find at least a few they like, plus assuming you have a memory card, it will remember the settings so you can set everything as easy as possible, and then let them play on their own. Bright colors and great music, simple but fun gameplay, not too harsh when you lose, monkeys....sounds like a winner for that age group to me! (for every age group, actually)

Oh, one caveat...some of the games are locked at first (#$@#$@#$ frickin' who wants to play single player to unlock multiplayer games????) So either find a buddy who has a unlocked save game and can copy it to your memory card, or do what I did and just play the easy level over and over until you get enough points to unlock everything. (I put it in "Picture in picture" and watched a movie...) Unless you're an expert gamer yourself, in which case you can master all the levels that kicked my butt, rather than staying on the easy stuff all the time.

this isnt a game made just for kids, but its easy to grasp, has really colorful graphics, alot of uniqueness ect. You will wanna go into options and set it to easy when they play, but when you play (yes, when you play, its an all ages game) you will wanna put it on normal unless you really suck

I already have SMB2, but my 4 year old, while she loves the monkeys and thinks they're cute, can't really grasp the concept of the game. I'll have to explore some of the mini-games....

In story mode I'm having a devil of a time getting through the whale. I completed every leve, except the one where the blocks shoot you up a tower....,

Shit, when I was 4, I was rocking Tempest like a fiend! Can't think of any "kiddy" games offhand though.

I have a now 6 year old who was 4 when the GCN came out. He really enjoyed SMB and Super Mario Sunshine. Most likely, a 4 year old won't be able to completely grasp all of the concepts of Mario, but they still tend to have fun with just exploring the game levels.

I'd recommend either playing with them, or unlocking the levels ahead of time. It will make it much more fun for them, cause they really can't understand why certain things in the game are locked.
