I got bored so I decided to pop Tony Hawk 2 into my PS2 using the faster disc speed and smooth texturing. Looks almost like a PS2 game to me.

It's very fun.

I also have the first game.

My favorite skater would be Bob Burnquist.

I think at one time, I got close to 200,000 points in one session.

I hate the 3rd game in the series. Too many objectives. I like to just SKATE and not do the objectives in the game.

Anyone else a fan of this series?

And best of all, they're Activision games..LOL. :D

I have 1 and 2 on DC and they are both fun games. I suck really bad at them though. For some reason I though having been a skater for most of my teen years I would have some edge in this game. Nope, I suck.

Im a THPS nut! I just cant seem to get bored of this game. Lets just say i have every release of the game except for the GBA carts. My most recent purchase was thps4 for the psone last week. I was really impressed and this is the best ps1 title. The DC versions of 1 & 2 rock hard imho, these where the first that i played,, oh, and the n64 release. Id say my least favourite release was THPS3, there is no gap checklist which is loads of fun after youve finished the levels.

THPS Underground is the next release, I think its a big living city GTA style? Too early to tell maybe.

Rodney Mullens is my fave skater

I played the heck out of the first three and loved them. My friend got #4 for the xbox and I played through most of it but the difficulty in the later levels was extremely hard. I think they are great games. Can't wait for the new one!

I have THPS 1 & 2 on Playstation, both completed :)

THPS 3 & 4 on PS2 - all levels unlocked on 3, about 3 left to do on 4

I also have 2X on my Xbox, but I am having trouble using the XBox controller (d-pad isn't responsive enough for my liking) so that one is way unfinished...

Damn, the Tony Hawk games are easily my favorite games ever. I've been going at THPS2 for the Dreamcast hardcore... I've had this game for years, but mostly just played Free Skate mode for hours on end. Now I've been concentrating on the Career mode, and have beaten the game 100% with everyone except for Rune, Tony, and Jamie. I've gotten to know the game so well that I can take a character all the way through career mode in about an hour. I've also hit all the gaps on the normal levels (I haven't legitimately unlocked the two hidden levels yet).

I recently bought THPS3 for the N64, and it's decent, but nowhere near as good as THPS2 for the Dreamcast (I got the N64 game for $10 though, so I'm happy). I still wish they had made part 3 for the Dreamcast... that would have been totally sweet. I'm looking forward to getting 3 and 4 (and Underground when it comes out) for the Gamecube. However, I doubt I'll enjoy any of them more than part 2... they just seem to be getting more and more insane with the stunts. I'd rather the games be more realistic than just comboing for 2 minutes straight. I usually try to restrict myself to realistic moves when I play. That said, I think my highest score was around 850,000 on the Bullring... grinding over those high wires just rakes in the points.

My favorite skater by far is Rodney Mullen... man, that guy pulls off some freakin' amazing stunts in the videos. I wish I had a fraction of his skill.

Pfft... as if Activision really did much with these games. All they really did was secure the trademark rights, and slap their name all over it once Neversoft was finished. Does Activision actually program anything themselves anymore? Or are they just another RIAA?

Are you sure about that? There's a gap checklist in the N64 version... It's in the options menu.

Yeah dude, I am very sure about that. Thps3 for the N64 wasnt released in PAL format so doesnt apply for me. And i can assure you that my pc, cube, psone, ps2 and xbox versions dont have a gap checklist. Thps3 is toooooo easy!

So when i say every, i mean all except 2x for xbox and 3 for n64

I'm a fan of the Tony Hawk series, but I just don't have too much time to play all the games I'd like to--i was just wondering if THPS4 is that much better than THPS3 that I have to get it even if I've played out THPS3?

Well, I finally cleaned out career mode with everyone and unlocked Skate Heaven... It'll take me a while to clear all the gaps there though! I've gotten a little tired of the THPS2 levels though... maybe I'll go back to THPS and play through some of those levels again. Never much cared for the "downhill" levels though...

I think thps4 is much better on the psone then thps3 on the psone. As for the more modern thps4's, I found it just a bit too easy. Still, better then 3 by a long shot.

Seems as though ppl dont like thps3 on the n64?? Ze_ro mentioned that it has a gap checklist which is making me think i should get an import. Is it really that bad? I like 1 & 2 on the n64.

I've only played Tony Hawk 3 on the Gamecube for a short while, and I've never played 1 or 2 for the N64, so I don't have a lot to compare the N64 version to, so I apologize now for any comparisons I make to THPS2 for the Dreamcast..

The graphics are good for an N64 game, but the framerate really suffers in some parts... often to the point that you'll screw up your trick. This is especially bad in some levels like Skater Island, where you'll get air off of a half-pipe, the whole level will be shown, and the framerate makes it hard to stick the landing. Like all N64 games, the graphics are also heavily filtered, so it doesn't look nearly as sharp as the other versions I've played. The polygon count seems rather limited too... the wheels and trucks on the skateboard are merged into one big cylinder, which looks rather strange, and the sparks when you grind look awful. The levels have "fog" in the background which limits your view. The draw distance is actually quite far, but you'll really notice the fog when you first drop in on the foundry. It's worth pointing out that this game makes use of the expansion pak, which I have... however, I've tried playing it without the pak, and it doesn't really seem any different to me.

Since this is a cartridge and not a CD, there are no cinematics in this version (There's an intro movie, but it's just in-game demos)... there is also less music, and what music it has is lower quality. There are also less moves in this version... in fact, most of the special moves are straight out of THPS2 with only a few extras added. Each character only has 3 specials instead of 4. I don't know the game well enough to say what was removed or changed, but I know that Mullen doesn't have his truckstand (He only has the anti-casper, nollieflip underflip, and gazelle underflip... didn't he have a handstand double flip in the other versions as well?). Pretty much all of the new regular moves are there such as the wrap-around and cannonball and such... however, you can't do the hidden combos like double/triple kickflips. There's also no balance meter for lip tricks (although there is one for manuals), and each skater only has one outfit as far as I can tell (I don't know if the other versions had more, but DC THPS2 had 2 for each skater, so I assume...). Finally, maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the framerate, but the animation for the moves doesn't seem very good to me.

The game has 8 levels, as well as the pre-made custom levels (By the way, the park editor seems like it's straight out of THPS2... only with two of the themes changed). I'm not sure if there are any hidden levels yet, and I remember reading that the only hidden characters were Officer Dick and Wolverine.

Hope that helps... the game seems like a strange merger of THPS2 and THPS3. It's about as good as you can expect it to get on the N64 though, and aside from the choppy framerate, it has no major flaws. If all you want is a gap checklist, I don't think it'd be worth it.

So, to keep the ball rolling... what is everyone's favorite level? Their favorite trick?

Personally, I think the school levels from the first two games are both excellent, and Philadelphia from THPS2 is awesome as well.

My favorite tricks are Rodney Mullens Casper to 360 Flip and the Darkslide. For some reason, the vert tricks don't impress me as much as quality freestyle/street moves.

I agree. I was turned off by the design of the Canada level cuz I've been to Canada and never seen any area that looked like the level in THPS3..LOL.

I sold THPS3 because I got sick of the stupid objectives. I find it hard to do tricks when there are no solid ramps or pools to launch out of.

My fave maps have got to be school 1 & 2. I also like the Mall in thps1, its quick and excellent fun trying the longest combo. The hanger in thps2 deserves a mention as does & Philadelphia. I like using all the charcters but number 1 has gotta be rodney, Hes totally mad and has the most awesome vids. For some reason i always ad the stalefish backflip to peoples trick lists, And the casper when possible.

I dont think ill be getting an import thps3 for the n64,,,,

I like the series. Just picked up THPS3 for the N64 for $10 as well. It's pretty good, I set it on free skate and do tricks for a few hours. Good fun.

I have a "trademark" series of tricks that I use to get me enough points to pass most levels in the first minute or so of runs. I am by no means a master, and I don't have big combo scores...but for racking up big points...

Bucky Lasek is my man for this...although I usually have to reprogram the key steeings...they changed Bucky's move list after #1 and I never adjusted :)

find a nice half pipe...preferably near a long rail or with a lengthy lip :)

720 Benihana w/ revert
540 Christ Air w/ revert
then a series of rail grinds with kickflips in between grinds...usually ending with a nice Big Hitter to revert and manual...that series can usually get me 100,000 to 150,000 in a little under a minute...

So what are all you favourite soundtracks??? I like thps1 and thps4 most for the music. The other 2 have some good tracks but i find myself skipping more tracks in 2 & 3.

When i 1st fired up 4 it was a bit of a shock to hear TNT, Then again hearing ace of spades on 3 was a bit of a shock as well. Im a fan of zeke so it was good to see a zeke track in 4.

I haven't heard the soundtrack for THPS4 yet, but I have mixed feelings on the rest of the soundtracks. I'm a big fan of punk music, but I absolutely can't stand hiphop. When playing THPS2 on the Dreamcast, I always have to skip track 8. Every other song I can at least stand, but track 8 is just horrible. Whatever music plays during Kareem Campbells skate video is also quite possibly the worst excuse for music that I've ever heard (I've read that Campbell actually has his own band... is this song actually his?).

Luckily, these games have always had the ability to turn off the music entirely, so I can blast my own music.
