Hi, Derek here.

No one seems to have any advice on getting MESS to run. I read the FAQ, MESS.txt, and everything else that came with it. I put the bios roms, unzipped in a subfolder with MESS (like the instructions said to do), it still tells me that it can't find them. This is getting frustrating. Any clarifying ideas...anyone??! Getting this emulator to run would mean that I could delete all the others that don't want to cooperate, such as the atari800, put the game roms in a some folders, back up the whole thing onto a CD and just enjoy the games, and share the fun with others, some of whom were born when these games came out but are nevertheless interested in this time period, 80's tunes, and the games!

Thanks, Derek.

You probably didn't get any replies because it's been asked many times in the past.

But, here it is for the 7800.
OK, you want the 7800.rom to be in the messbiosa7800 folder and your .a78 files in the messsoftwarea7800 folder. If the a7800 subfolders aren't there then create them.

Other systems are identical just sustitute the system you want for a7800.

I was just wondering if you ever got mess to work for you... Didnt want you to be out there totally frustrated!

If youre still struggling with it, shoot me a pm and i betcha we can figure it out ! Ive gained a new respect for mess and the hard work that went into it! It would be a shame to let it go to waste, not to mention the fact that its the only way currently to emulate the 7800

Hi, "stuck in the 80's". It's a good place to be, great games, fab music. Anyhoo, I will try to come up with some sensible questions. Since no one else had offered their help, I kind of just pushed it aside. I have the bios roms, MESS on the desktop as instructed in the FAQ, followed the instructions and can't get it to tell me anything except that it can't find the bios roms. It is all in the same damn folder, so I don't know how much simpler I can make it for the bloody program. I can't move all the game roms there too as there are other emulators on my system that will play them and this would lead to a lot of redirecting and adjusting, and there just isn't time to screw with it all. Things need to work, reliably without all this crap. Every emulator I have tried, with the exception of MAME :) has been a nightmare to get to run.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be on this Tifany.

On another note, what kind of summer are you getting there? Here in Saint Joh, New Brunswick, July was mainly overcast with below average temps. So far there has been rain every day of August. This sucks! Fall and cold and snow will be back at the same time whether we get a summer or not. Geez, I thought last summer's weather couldn't have sucked harder. I have never been to Oklahome, thus why I ask.

Hope to hear from you.

All the best, Derek.

Howdy there!

OK, as far as mess goes, heres a few things to make sure you have right... make sure the 7800 bios is in the folder marked "bios" also make sure that the 7800 bios is ZIPPED! If you unzip it , things dont like to work.

Once you make sure that thats where its supposed to be, go to the main screen of mess and right click on a7800... go to properties, then go to audit... click audit and see what hapens, it should say "passed" if thats ok, then click on software. You dont actually have to have the 7800 roms in the same folder marked software if you dont wat... i too have lots of emus that share roms. Just select browse after you click on software and tell the mess where your roms are. Either that or create a folder in the software folder in mess marked a7800 and transfer all the roms there.

Ok, once you have the bios set up and it passes the check, and you have it recognizing where the software is, all you should have to do is go tot eh main screen on mess, select a7800... the games shoud all show up in the window makrked software. if they do, just click on whatever game you want to play, and you should be good to go.

mess is 99% like mame, so if you go that to work, i dont see why you shouldnt be able to get mess to work.

As a last resort i might be able to send you my mess folders that are already set up.

let me know if any of this works for you!

As far as how things are here... well to tell the truth they suck! LOL Its very hot and humid... temps inthe high 90s to low 100s... humidity around 75 - 85% in other words pretty darn miserable! Unless of course ya like to sweat! :D
