Are the used PlayStations (Box kind. Not new teeny tiny One. The older one.) worth $30?

I'm getting close to picking one up, but if I can wait, I can.

Seeing as the newer One's are $50. What would a new X be worth anyway?

I just need one. Well, not NEED, but if it's worth it, I will get one.

You know?

Also, does the One have anything the X doesn't? Like in features? Or is it a straight remake?

I sold an original used one for $10 or $12 on eBay, as is (the motor couldn't spin discs fast enough to play and needed to be replaced).

you could pay 30 and get one that could bust any day, or coudl could pay 20 more and get one that wont break as quick, and has a warentee to boot.

Get the retail one

Well, GS actually puts a warranty on the used ones too. But I am liking the teeny tiny size of the "One". I really like how small it is. It's future hacking fodder.

Anyway, the warranty for the used systems covers it for a year and covers anything the new systems are covered for. It is only $5 more.

Do the older ones have a tendency to die off shortly after the warranty ends? Who knows how long these X's were owed for before they were traded in, though? I dunno.

So in the end it's really only $15 more.

Though, with a One, I'd be the original owner. And that's always nice.

Hmmm...

Need to think..

If only there were new leftover X's for like $40. Even $30 or $35.

DON'T buy a used PSX. These systems are notorious for dying after a lot of play, meaning that you'll probably have relatively little time with it, unless the previous owner negelcted it (and with a system that has both Tomb Raider and Resident Evil, I don't think that's likely). It may already play choppy, meaning you'd have to keep it upside down all of the time, and even then that's not full-proof. Definitely get a new PS1, it may cost a little more, but it's worth it in the long run.

You could get an original playstation just for the collectible factor. The older models accomodates for serial port-based GameSharks/Action Replay, which are useful for those into PSX homebrewing. Model 1001 has built in RCA plugs. It's convenient but the laser unit on those models is quite problematic.

Good call, I guarantee you'll be playing much longer than if you bought one used. If you do stumble upon a cheap PSX, do pick it up just for the fact it's the original. I wouldn't pay more than $10-$15 for it, since they're so unreliable. My PSX still plays well, mainly because I bought it used and it worked ok, so I didn't play it a whole lot. PS2 takes care of all PSX duties :D .

Now, as for games, IMO this is all you need:

Tomb Raider
Resident Evil (or, as in my case, Resident Evil: Director's Cut)
Resident Evil 2

You're best off to buy a PSOne in my opinion.

I still have my original PSX and it still works. It's just a centerpiece in my collection cuz of my PS2.

What about a second hand psone? I meen the new smaller one. New they are $100 + here and theres about 8 2nd hand new models in the local pawn for $50. Are these more reliable? and is there a working bootdisc for them? I ask because i copy all my games and patch them to run on NTSC (full screen / faster),

I own an original 1001 that still works but has been tampered with too many times, I like the fact that you dont need to get a chip for the 1001. So reliability and no mod needed for imports are my biggest concerns about the new psone, Any advise appreciated as i might buy one tomorrow,,,

You should EASILY be able to find a brand new PsOne for $50. Might even be able to find one for $40 or so.

PS1's are all $50 new here. I've never seen them cheaper, but prices should start dropping as we get closer and closer to the PS3 and the new round of console wars.

I didn't even know people still SOLD PSOne's for more than $50. They've been $49.99 for a year around here. Everywhere. And not once have I seen a used One. Only X's.
