i'm currently playing this one on my gamecube and really enjoying it, i didnt hear much about this game when it came out so i thought i'd give some attention. you can pick up a copy for under $20, i think the fact that the movie sucked hurt this title. the gameplay is basically combat vechicles vs. dragons, in some levels you actually get to play as a dragon (let the burnination begin!). i guess you could say its a bit like halo but in any case its well worth the price. oh and this game is hard, its not a pushover but the levels are intense enough that you wnt get bored beating them. my only complaint is the horrible load time.

I thought the film was ok-ish even quite good.

But the game sucks big time in my opinion although I didn't get far enough to play as a dragon, which I suspect is more fun.

I guess we all have different opinions and should try before we buy.

thats funny, total opposite. i guess the movie never had the big battles implied in the promotions. where was the destruction of the cities, the dragons fighting swarms of helicopters? i mean they only had one helicopter in the film. looks to me like the budget got cut down.

the game is hard, and that might cut off the enjoyment factor for some. if you made it to the seaport level and you didnt enjoy it..i dunno i love that kind of thick combat. two levels till i've beat it :)

I've mentioned it in a couple threads on Digital Press that I like this game too (though so far I'm only familiar with the PS2 version).

I'd heard that MicroCenter had them for $9, but there isn't one near me. Can anyone provide? :-)

You sure do get to play as the dragons! One of my favorite missions was a dragon mission. It was one that was really tough at first, but got easier (still a challenge, mind!) with time.

Some levels are only hard at first; others stay hard. The difficulty level is fairly tough in general though.

But, I got all the way through except for the Bull Dragon level, which I think is the last one. Holy CRAP is that one tough... He just refuses to die! We even found a semi-decent hiding place, but he still does enough damage when it isn't safe that we've never survived the encounter.

Yep, MicroCenter sells Reign of Fire for $8.99, along with the GBA version. I have both. The GC version is much better. But then, nothing is really playable on the GBA anyway, even with the SP's backlight. It's just too dimly lit to see. I kind of expected some kind of Brightness wheel like on the Atari Lynx, but there isn't one. Just two light settings; dim or off. Such a waste.

I don't suppose they STILL do, do they? Maybe you or someone else could pick me up a copy?

Actually, maybe I should just check eBay... Or does MicroCenter have these on their webpage? I've checked, but come up empty -- if anyone has a link, let me know.

game ending spoiler beware sorta

so i got the very last level, where the bull has been shot down and you're there to finish him off. hate to say but i got too bored with the level to complete it, damn shame since the level prior was kickass. its just too easy/hard you can live forever by getting underneath the bull and blast away all you want but he wont die...zzzzzzzz

Actually, I've never been able to live forever doing that, but I've also never been able to kill him either. There's gotta be a trick to that level, right?
