So... I was looking for something under my bed... and i felt something hot.... it was my n64. It had been on for 1 month at least. No game in it or anything. I'm gonna try it later and see if it works.

N64's are surprisingly durable. Let us know what the outcome is.

Back in the day before games had save features, we would pause our game and unplug the TV wires and leave the machine on and go back the next day and pick up where we left off. It never hurt my NES. Thats the beautiful thing about machines with no moving parts.

The only thing you had to worry about was tripping over the power cord and yanking it out of the wall. Whoops! There goes Super Mario 3.

So why exactly was it plugged in while it was under your bed? Seems strange to me...

Was there an expansion pak in the system? Mine always seems to get so hot, I often worry about overheating...

I remember when I was 8 years old...

Me an my family were going camping, and I was in the middle of Blizzard Man's stage on Mega Man 6. I just paused, shut off the TV, came back, turned it on, and continued my game.

I think when nash turned it back on again, it exploded and the shrapnel left him mortall wounded. :x

Or maybe he just got bored and forgot to update the thread. :ponder:

Cart systems are exceptionally durable. I left my Genesis on for a week once. Never had a problem with it. I'm sure te N64 will work just fine.

(A friend of mine was positively brutal to his 130XE ripping carts out of it while the power was still on. He never had a problem with it either.)

I used to do this to my 2600 back then when I would get pissed at a particular game. I've never had a problem with my system either. It still works now. :D

The longest I ever left a system on was my Atari 400 which I accidentally left on for a week and a half once when I was younger (we went on vaction). It survived and is still functional to this day.

One slightly used N64 for sale. Case is a bit crispy, but is great to snuggle up to on those cold winter nights.

The longest I ever left something on was a PlayStation during a game of Final Fantasy VIII. Typical "I got tired and wasn't near a save point" type deal, and since I was already laying in bed I just threw the controller on the floor. Got up for work the next day, had completely forgotten about it. Came home from work, went in my bedroom to flop and burn and turned on the TV. Whoa. But I didn't save and shut it off - I picked it up and went right on playing. Now that I think about it that's probably the one console I +never+ should have done that with. :sighs:

LOL ain't that the truth.

I've actually never left a system on. I'm too protective of them, like to keep 'em in nice shape (which is why I buy backups).

Yeah, I used to leave Sim City on (not paused) for the SNES so that while I was gone you could collect taxes... sure... half the town would be in flames by the time you got back to it. But you got a whole lotta money. :D
