Didn't like the NES controller and don't like the Sega version of the square pad either. My vote is for the Xbox, even though I like the biggie controllers better than the S one's.

the sms had a better pad than the nes, but it still had the square make your hands raw feel. Xbox for sure

There used to be an old saying, "If you can't find something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Therefore, I will spend the rest of this post talking only about the Sega Master System controller.

The Sega Master System controller is no great shakes by any stretch of the imagination. It is, however, relatively wieldy. It also hasn't had the misfortune of being replaced months after release by another controller which marginally improved the ergonomics, but in the process screwed with the standard button configuration imposed by its predecessor. The Sega Master System controller was not cheap, but thankfully it also wasn't priced at $5-$15 over superior controllers on other contemporary systems. These characteristics are not at all unique to the Sega Master System controller, but they are...shall we say, "nice" characteristics. :)

Chalk up a reluctant vote for the SMS controller.

I'm actually going to vote for the Master System pad.

I like the XBox controller fine, as long as I'm using the analog sticks.

But I'm a Tony Hawk Pro Skater player, and I've used the D-pad to play since day 1 (just more natural).

The XBox D-pad is one of the most unresponsive ones I've ever seen, can't pull of much of anything with it.

So for that one reason only, I'll pick the SMS pad...

Well, I like the SMS pad. It may be a bit small but it's good. As for the Controller-S, it was a very nice change from the original controller. But I'd have to go with the SMS because I've never used the Controller-S in gameplay. I've only held it in store kiosks and stuff like that.

I'm gonna vote for the Microsoft X-Box (S-Type) controller. I couldn't stand the SMS control pad back in the day. I hated the D-Pad on it. The control just didn't seem as accurate as the "+" shaped D-Pad on the NES. Also the SMS pad didn't have a separate start button.

I'm definetely going with the SMS, I really loved it back in the day and I still think it's a simplistic yet very nice controller.

I abstain, because I haven't ever used a SMS controller for any length of time.

I'm just posting to let it be known that I actually voted, since I'm one of the regulars on these threads. :D

I want to know how Microsoft could design a mouse that's comfortable to hold, with buttons in the right places, but not a fucking video game controller after two tries.

I guess I abstain too, not having used either.

If I had to guess, I'd probably vote for the DC-ripoff-revamp rather than the NES-ripoff, but hey.

I have only used the SMS pads with the cable sticking out the side.. which is where your hand is supposed to be...

At the same time, I have only used the original "Salad Bowl" Xbox controllers...

I am going to have to vote for "none of the above". :ponder:
