AES= $325 ;)

I'm probably going to pick the home cart up. See what it's like to own a New Neo Geo game for once. :P

$1800 for a jamma board is a bit to much for even me thou. :ponder:

This has to be the first time the MVS release is more expensive than the AES. Oh well, hopefully it will come down eventually. Does it need a special board or is it just included in the kit for some reason?

Comes with full Jamma PCB (56 pin), 12 page user's manual, 6 cabinet stickers (contains characters info & moves), software dip sheets, 3 full size promotional flyers, all in original well protected double boxed packaging. Liquid, I think your price was closer to what the first run cost. The initial run of these boards were over $1800 a pop. I believe that's what I read anyway. The neostore had 2 in stock and I think they were charging $1850 or $1875 as well. Now it shows they have 7 kits in stock, I think it's a second run and a cheaper price point.

Tempest, I think at least from what I read about Neo Geo, I'm still a newbie myself, but pretty much all the MVS titles start off at a higher price point than AES. From reading in some FAQs it's because usually it's the new game on the street so to speak, and it comes out on MVS first. It was SNK or whomever to set the price. Also they made the carts differently on purpose to keep arcade owners from buying the cheaper home carts, but just over time the price for mvs titles goes down, as does most everything.

AES games in general have become more collectable, with their color labels, snap cases w/inserts, & manuals, so AES games have stayed at a premium. It's a collectors market. Some of the rarer AES titles have skyrocketed in value, the original Metal Slug, MOTW, Ultimate 11, Blazing Star, etc. But basically MVS becomes the cheap way to experience Neo Geo over time. But on brand new releases it's totally the opposite.

SVC Chaos is nothing more than a Jamma arcade board, don't really need anything else to make one run other than a Jamma arcade unit. Or a Supernova setup. This supposedly was done to deter bootlegging. As MVS carts are easily bootlegged. :/ The MVS is a Jamma compatible board, that accepts MVS carts. To play SVC in a Neo cab, you have to disconnect the MVS board from the jamma harness and put the SVC board in. Pretty simple. :)

Damn was I pissed when I saw the SDB kits the other day for $175 :x I piad $125 for a loose one 4 months ago....

Yea MVS prices always drop in a few months after release. MS4 is only $170 most places now for a full kit brand new. While the AES is more for collectors, the MVS is the only way to go. I tried the AES route and I was tired of being broke and only buying 1 game to get there. Of course, that depends if you have the room for a cab or not. good luck on your collection VGA ;) Oh and you may wanna check around to buy games from other resources than the Neo Store - he's always more expensive.

True, but there are still cheaper with the same product. Or just get em from Japan - prices are real cheap, but shipping is quite a bit :)

I think I read that it is gonna come out on the Game Cube. I think the chances of this game coming out on a more mainstream system are pretty good.

Well, I finally got the chance to play the game (not nearly as much as I'd have liked too though, thanks to work). And here's my thoughts...

guard cancel dash-everyone thought this would break the game. Not really..It's basically just a parry that takes meter. The dash itself is quick as hell too. Useful for getting around stuff, and thats about it.

Throw range is about the same as in SF3-3rd strike, however, the incentive to not whiff is alot greater, cuz it drains your meter.
now, on to the characters..

Shiki-this is who I used almost exclusively, and well, I sucked with her, especialyl since everyone else there had been playing all day. Still I can say this-she rocks. Her one super attack goes under flying fireballs and does MASS amounts of damage. In addition, she's got this diving slash move thats really useful, that you do in the air. I was using it to build meter, and throw people off. Didn't land her control reversing grab at all, although I did do her ground F+A chain, the timing is weird after it and I wasn't able to follow it up. Her teleport also=good. Even though I lost all of my matches, they were all down to the wire.

Geese-my mortal enemy. I HATE GEESE. And for one reason too. Geese in and of himself isn't too bad..but Raging Storm is one of the best supers in the game. The forward range on the thing is great, it stays out for a while, and it does tons of damage if it connects. You can't jump at all against geese because he'll pull that out. Other then that he's not too shabby. Good fireballs, good ground game, good character.

Vega-didn't see much of him. Seemed able to do alot of poking due to his claw. He's quick, but his somersault move seemed a bit slow. Not a bad character, but he isn't the best, I don't think.

Balrog-Now this was more like it. Rog's range on his punches isn't that great, but they beat alot of stuff out, and they hurt. His repeated punch super is very very good, fast and if they get hit in the air he sucks them along for the rest of the hits.

Kasumi-she's definitely good. Her wave is useful, since it stuffs alot of stuff (as it should), she has a very good anti air, and a pretty painful combo that bizounce kept doing.

Genjyuro-he's an underdog, thats about all I can say. His attacks are kinda slow, he's not really that quick, either, and quite frankly, he was getting beat up like a nobody. He's definitely someone whom you need to know some good combos with, but I wouldn't say he's that great, period.

Akuma-He's quality. His uppercut super goes through shit, He can dish out some harsh damage, his air fireball is pretty good, ground fireball is FAST, in short, he's akuma. Takes damage like a schoolgirl though.

Violent Ken-AKA Evil Ken, he has some nasty, nasty stuff. Like his multiple kicks super can be followed up with a Shinryuken super and have it all hit he's got this teleport, I think its his dash, that is really good too, for grabbing people. Finally, his hurricane kick in the air is a Hyper Fighting style one where he doesn't arc, just moves straight.

Mars People-Oh my god. This guy is insane. Good reach on his normal moves, a neat projectile, an exploding teleport (which is a pain in the ass) and an unblockable super where a UFO comes out and shoots rings at you. He also has the best winpose in the game-he pulls out a cellphone

Earthquake-Really good. Quake can dish it out. His entire game basically consists of keeping people out of his personal space and doing his teleport move where he comes out of the sky on top of you. If they block, he can do a strange air spinning move and come down on em. Still though, he's raging storm bait.

Chun Li-she's insane. Fast, her moves beat alot of stuff out, and she has the super of doom, also known as her multiple kick super. It does lots of chip damage, is safe if blocked, and you can only dash cancel out of it at one point near the end. Oh yeah, its invincible at the start too. The ultimate mistake punisher in the game.

I also saw some of Demitri, Ryu, Kim, Kyo, and Iori, but not enough to really get an idea of what they can do.

Graphically the game is great. It was right next to a KOF 2k2 machine, and you can see the difference. SvC looks alot crisper, and looks like it has higher resolution. Characters are very well animated too, ESPECIALLY Demitri. Soundwise, its very nice. Nothing special, but it gets the job done.
I give this game 2 thumbs up.

A few thoughts from playing today-

Mr Karate-Ok, so I said Geese was good, and so was Chunners. But this guy...oh my god. Good fireball, a rather good dragon punch, command grab, crazy hands move, a fireball cancelling move, and a huuuuge super fireball. So say nothing of the fact that he can cancel his flying kick move into the uppercut super for real good damage. He's a very good character.

Hugo-Pretty damn decent. He has some questionable matchups against a few characters, but he hits hard. His hand swipe is pretty good, and although his 360 grab range is kinda puny, the damage on it, and especially the Gigas Breaker exceed(which DOES have good range), more then make up for that. His only weakness is he doesn't build meter fast.

Goenitz-Good at eeping you out. Tornados have some startup, but once they're out, they stay there for a little bit. Up close he falls apart, but thats if you can get in. I think he could be a Geese counter.

Dhalism-he's pretty god too. His limbs do good damage, Yoga inferno super is HUGE, and the yoga legend exceed is painful. I just wonder how he lands it exactly. Counter? Close hitbox?

Overall alot of fun with the game today, its very much a game where you have to know the fundamentals of fighers, and what your character's moves can and can't do.

There will be an SNK vs Capcom tournament, a Capcom vs SNK 2 team tournament, and possibly a Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike tournament on September 6th at Wizzards arcade on 8 mile and gratiot.
SvC

10 dollar entry fee
double elimination 2/3 matches
At the moment, Zero is banned...I'm going to talk to the organizer about that. It doesn't make sense.

CvS2

double elim 2/3 matches
Roll Cancelling is permitted

3s isn't confirmed, so no details on that one.
