Is it worth $19.99 used?

I hope so, I just found a copy finally. I had to think about it though.

I was checking out with two NES games and a random cheap DC game for nothing. EGG for $2.99.. The guy got it out and said there was no manual or original stuff for it, I said "Okay..." reluctantly. Then thought for a second as he was packaging it in the case and said, "You know what? I think instead I'll take that Soul Calibur." Well, he couldn't agree more. I'm sure I'll find EGG somewhere one day when I've built my collection enough, but for now, SC is an awesome find.

It may have been a bit more than I wanted to pay today, but I couldn't take a chance on losing it. Besides, he gave me the good looking copy which is cool. It's a nicely detailed game and my brother will be happy. Now I just need another controller.

Yeah. A little high, but it came with everything. Manual, Nice looking case.. Very cool. The DigitalPress list says $15 for a copy. And I got $2 off, but I still think it was worth it. I had to splurge. Now, if only I had $25 to spend on the copy of Kid Icarus and that still in box shrinkwrapped Ultima game. Both $13-$15 each. :ponder:

Must save money, but afraid they'll be gone soon. At least the Ultima.

There is an eBay seller with new copies of the Japanese release of Soul Calibur listed with a BIN of $7.99. I bought one the other day and I will post the rest of the story when I receive it.

Is the Japanese one any different? Besides the language.

I guess one would also need a way to play Japanese games.

a game shark will allow you to play almost all imports, i would recommend one, as the DC has some great import titles you may come across :)

the main difference is that you wont be able to understand what to do in the mission mode

Are the US and Jap Mission Modes the same? I guess if I knew the US one, I could fuddle through the Jap.

That is if I even bought a copy.

It's on my to do list.

Buy all US DC Games
Buy all Foreign DC Games
Buy a Lottery Ticket and win

You know? ;)

You could always use a cheat sheet for the mission mode:

http://db.gamefaqs.c...r_mission_a.txt

I haven't played the Japanese version since it was first released. I rented it back in August of '99 and only played it for a few days.. so I don't really remember how much English was in the game.

The price of used Dreamcast games seriously sucks. Used games are costing more than NEW games. How a store like EB can help label the Dreamcast a failure, and then turn around and demand $20 for a USED game is beyond me.

Soul Calibur is an awesome game. One of the DC library's "10s." Me, I got very, very lucky and found ONE copy at the movie/game rental department of my local grocery store for $9.99. New.

Only import I have is the European Shenmue II. I use a Utopia boot disc to start it. Interesting note - I saw a used copy of Shenmue II at a Gamestop store south of Pittsburgh for like $30. I'm not sure if it was the Japanese or European version. (The Euro one has English subtitles.)

Soul Calibur is worth every penny and more. It is, without question, the best 3D fighter I've ever played and is second only to Street Fighter Alpha 3 as my favorite fighting game.

Less than 2 weeks 'til SC2 comes out....!!

I'd like to get an import of Shenmue II, but I haven't even finished I yet.

It's worth it at any price from $0-$20. Beyond that, it's getting extreme. Man, the amount of stuff to unlock is insane, but it keeps me coming back for more. :D

Yeah! I beat the regular Arcade mode with um.. a girl character. I forget the name, it had a T in there, and I got a new guy. I'm gonna have fun with this.

If it was more, I probably wouldn't have said yes. But I'm glad it got me out of buying an uncomplete game. It would have been the first game I wouldn't have the cover or stuff for and it'd make the collection.. AWKWARD. This was a better deal. :D

I bought the jap release on import for around $100 when it came out. It was money well spent and for $20 i wouldnt say no. I had to translate the entire game,,, Ya know i think its better then any fighters on the ps2 or xbox.

The only thing I think could make Soul Calibur better is if you were fighting in an environment, like DOA2, and not just on an isolated stage. Sure, everything in Soul Calibur looks good, but basically all it is is two fighters on a stage with a pretty background. With DOA2, you're not limited to a stage or ring.

Oops... double post... but another thought... when I saw SC2, I was surprised to see it's still a stage-fighting game. I was thinking that was something they would have changed. But they didn't.

The fights themselves are the stars here. Sure, it is too set up. Like they built the stage just for the fighting, but the fights are spectacular.

DOA is another I gotta pick up. I saw a copy of that too at GS yesterday.

Boy, three good games in a row. Looney Tunes, Soul Calibur and DOA. I should pick the DOA up, but I am really low on money to be throwing it around. But I might cave. I mean, the guy DID joke to me on the way out the door yesterday "See ya tomorrow.." and I replied, "Yeah.. maybe.."

Soul Caliber was definitly worth trading for (even though when I got it case was broken- easily fixed..thankfully I always have extra jewel cases).

I've been playing SC close to non-stop since getting it last weekend, I love it and definitly showcases what the Dreamcast can do! I'm going through mission mode, unlocking things when I can, and the arcade mode. Anyone else find Arcade Mode too easy sometimes? Even though I suck at fighting gmaes and I have problems pulling special moves off I still love SC and beat it with I think 5 different characters already.

Yes. The best thing is if you have a perfect disc, booklet and inserts, the case can be easilly replaced. All you need is a clear case.

Ahhh yes, I forgot about DOA2 on the DC. That is one kickass title! The graphics are pretty impressive and i admit the environment makes it feel real.

Another way of looking at it is, even if in DOA2 you are still technically limited to a certain area, which is like a stage, the stage flows seemlessly into the surrounding environment.

Of course, if this was implemented in Soul Calibur, you couldn't get ring outs. But I think I could live without them.

The other thing about SC I can't quite figure out is while I like fighting with weapons (there's no weapons in DOA2), how can you whack a person with a sword like Nightmare's and not cut someone clean in half? They don't even appear to get a flesh wound. Rather unrealistic.

Soul Calibur does tend to be easy, but you can bump up the difficulty settings to compensate.

DOA2 is probably the best looking Dreamcast fighter. I have one pet peeve about about it: I have the hardest time trying to maneuver an opponent's back to a cliff or window so I can knock them down a tier. The camera always seems to swing around (moreso than in your typical 3D fighter) like it forces me to stay centered.

With DOA2's great mulit-tiered fighting , I wish I could pull off a knock-over more often.

ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!!

I said the exact same thing to my wife while playing the other night. The camera angle was perfect, the opponent was exposed, and as I swung and got the victory kill I turned to her and said, "Wait a minute - that should have split him like a hot knife through butter. One half should be quivering on either side of my blade. What's wrong here?" She just  her eyes at me. :lolblue:

Who said Video Games had to be realistic? ;)

You realize in video games, the player can get hit by hundreds of bullets before he dies while one shot kills the enemy. If it were realistic, it would be too hard. Imagine DOOM if you died from one shot, or if you got shot on the leg you'd have to limp or if you lost both your legs you would lie on the ground until you bled to death or got eaten by an enemy. Hmm.. not too fun.

DOA sounds like another I gotta get. Is it DOA or DOA 2? Or are both on the DC?

if you want realistic, pick up virta fighter 3tb

its kindof the bastard child of the VF series, but its still pretty good. and if youre lucky to see a copy, get project justice. This capcom fighter (sequel to rival schools) is very silly and fun to play, but its fairly rare.
