Check it out. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

http://cgi.ebay.com/...6&category=4313

On a related note, for those of you who have bought used DC systems, especially at stores like GameStop and not so much off of eBay, what has your experience been with them? Do they work OK? Develop a problem during or after the store's warranty runs out? Just curious, cuz once you get the number of DC games I have (40) your worst fear is that your DC will stop working and you'll be stuck with a bunch of coasters.

I've only bought one used, but it's worked okay so far. I hope it can hold out until I beat Resident Evil Code: Veronica!

Well I posted a topic about my DC troubles which thankfully I fixed myself and I really do feel that a lot of people misdiagnose their DC problems having to do with the laser not reading the cd's because it's scratched or unalligned. Anyway I bought mine off ebay and it worked great for about a month or so I just think that the DC is prone to get lint built up in the gears that drive the laser mechanism and I highly suggest everyone with DC probs to check for this.

It's really quite easy because once you get the top shell off the dc all you got to do is lift up the whole cd drive and look under it. And before I fixed my DC I figured it was for sure dead and I was so pissed I was flicking the laser and wiggling it pretty darned hard and I accidentally touched it a couple times and it works like a charm ever since i removed that lint. :D

What's the appeal behind transparent cases anyways?
I've always thought the guts looked pretty ugly. I thought cases were so we didn't HAVE to look at the ICs and PCBs and so on.

I dont have a problem with my Dreamcast, I bought it two years ago and it works like it was new everytime! Personally if I knew there was gonna be a Crystal Clear I would of got that instead of the original.

I've never preferred them to solid colored consoles, but they do look kind of neat. I use a see-through green N64 to do my playing, and keep my original black one (from back when the N64 just came out) nice and sleek looking. That's what I would use that clear DC for, it would handle the playing duties, while my original stayed in nice shape.

Those transparent casings were available in a local GameStop a few years ago. I thought about buying one, but didn't want to risk damaging my DC just for a case mod.

DC's assembled pretty neatly. I doubt you could've hurt it if you weren't doing something stupid like stabbing at the board with a chisel to get those ugly black squares off of it. :)

On the down side, your modem would never match again.

Mine works perfectly. I've had it a little over a month now. Play it a lot. It's holding up fine. And it has a warranty, so I'm set for the next 11 months.

KingAtari...

Code Veronica... very nice game (Better then the PS2 ver. in graphics IMO too! :)

I've far from beated it, but have played it a lot! (not recently however)

I've owned about 4 DC's(not because they were bad, but mostly for friends who wanted one) from the used places and the one I have now is starting to act up.(I'll take it apart and do a good cleaning though)
Maybe since I like to play Nintendo on it, it's trying to learn ways to do
what my original NES does ;) haha.... argh.

I will never forget my very 1st Dreamcast purchase...
I went to Meijer one day with the intention that I'm getting a new DC
(this is when they had JUST dropped the price on them to a reasonable $99) And.. here I was getting excited.... got home to plug it in.

Well, I noticed when I had opened it up, there was already a DEMO disc... HUH? How/Why is that in there.... (right then I had a bad feeling)
Then... I powered it up and nothing.... it would just sit there on a blue screen and you could hear the motor scratching badly.
Being upset (we always are aren't we? just means more time of returning the crap and so forth) I was ready to take it back... then had thought about it... (looked in my bag, looked in the box, in my car, everywhere!)
I didn't get a receipt. :( STU-PID!

I took it back to Meijer anyways... I went directly to the cashier and was like... look... I just bought this about an hour ago (You remember I was here right) and I didn't get a receipt and this thing is obviously used, it had a game disc in it and does not work, can I please get a exchange.
(You know how places like that are? eck)

As it turns out, she and the whole exchange thing was much better then I had expected (considering I didn't have a receipt).

In about 5 mins, she had me exchanged for another one and no problems at all.. just a thanks and sorry for the trouble.
Whew!

After that, I got my DC home (in a REAL new format :D and
there I was, gaming away!

:)

I did a case mod on mine and it had the modem cover too. I've managed to find matching VMU cases, vibration packs, and controllers. What I need to find is
a replacement transparent teal cover for the broadband adapter now :ponder:

Your lucky u paid that reasonable price i bought mine a few months after release for £150, but it did come with 2 games and a vmu, so i suppose it wasnt a bad deal, but ill always remember playing sonic adventure for the 1st time... now thats probably my greatest gaming moment to see the gfx capability of it.

I should probably pick it up for PS2, but the DC version is more than good enough for right now. The game certainly looks like it would pass well on a PS2 (especially since I was told the DC runs on a 64-bit processor).

This is the first I've ever heard of there being any debate over the DC's "bitness." Thought it was as advertised 128-bit. What makes ya think it's 64?

It was advertised as having 128-bit graphics.
Which is true. It's GPU is 128-bit.

But the SH4 CPU isn't 128-bit.
...
Not that bittage matters.
The XBox, the most powerful of the current 3 systems, has a 32-bit processor.

Kyo PMd me and told me it was running off of a 64 bit processor. I was just going by that. I still think of it as 128 bit system. I can't see the N64 doing some of the stuff it pulls off.

Back to the clear cover, I have one of those that I never installed, PM me if anyone is willing to pay me what I paid for it. It is still in it's original plastic, so there are no scratches on it. :)

CPUWIZ...

Would be a nice case if your going to do the blue LED mods all over the system :D How come you never used it? Just never got the time to hook it up/replace your DC case/cover?

K.Atari.. - You have no need to pick up the PS2 version if you have
the DC version (trust me!) My buddy had a PS2 at the time and
I was still on my DC (still am, but also have a PS2 (gotta play my GTA and Vice City ;) and he ended up getting Re:Code Veronica for the PS2
and you can (after playing the DC version for about 12 hours) clearly
see the difference on the PS2 (that it's not better, but actually more rigid)

About FPS.... Half-Life could count , haha... if the loading times weren't so slow and you could bypass them. I never really cared for FPS on a console, except for when I was playing 007 with some friends on the N64.
And, the DC is a 128bit almighty machine ;)

I ended up putting mine in a transparent black case and did do a blue LED mod on it. :D
