The GameCube demo kiosk at TRU was running a new demo disk at TRU.

The new demo disk includes Star Wars Rogue Squadron III. I didn't have long but the first level is a walking level with Luke on Hoth taking out a big walker with a thermal grenade! I don't know if there were levels past this. Overall it's pretty cool! I think the whole walker bit has been done to death in many of the SW games, but taking them out without a ship is a twist! I'm sold and look forward to picking up SW RSIII when it comes out!

Other playable demos were 1080, F-Zero, and couple others, and a couple rehashes from the preview CD. I wish I had more time to try a few of the other titles out!

What's really annoying is that the demo disc that's for sale is like $30-40. Don't the Sony JamPaks or whatever they're called retail for less than $10?

It's like Nintendo thinks of it as one game built out of a couple small games, rather than as a promotional tool...afraid they'll undercut their main game sales or something.

Don't blame Nintendo for the cost of the demo disc. Right on the back it says "Not For Resale". Nintendo never intended those to be sold individually, they were meant to be given away free with the purchase of a system. Most places that do sell it (like EB) sell it for about $10. I know of only Best Buy (hah!) selling it for an outrageous sum, like $30+.

nintendo would be wise to start selling demo disks, even if they just gave one away with Nintendo Power subscriptions. Obviously, since the disks are proprietary, they are more expensive to produce, but even if they broke even on sales, it would push more product out the door... meh what do i know

I picked my demo disc up at KB Toys -- it was $10. I had to check around at a few stores -- the KB Toys in Stoneham, MA wouldn't sell me one, but the one in Burlington would.

Originally, when news of the demo disc first came out, it was reported that it would be for sale for $10. The next day, the news seemed to have changed.

As for Best Buy, I have no idea what is up with those idiots. You can get whole games for the cube for less than $40... why anyone would purposely buy a demo disc for that much is beyond me... the only thing I can think of is that they are hoping to fool parents into buying the disc. I can imagine quite a few angry customers coming back to complain about it, and then being told that they don't accept returns on opened video games...

Yeah Best Buy's customer service is a joke. Even the people they hire are total pieces of sh!t. I made the mistake of purchasing an X-mas gift there last year, and when my mom tried to return it they gave her a very hard time. Took her over 45 minutes, and the store manager was a complete asshole, who wouldn't answer pages, and didn't even want to talk to us. He was too busy walking around the store. Finally the dude got him to come over, and when he got there, he still wouldn't even talk to us, or face us for that matter, just told the dude to give us a store credit. They've lost our business.

But as Rhindle said, the demo disc was a "not for resale" deal. It was meant to be given away with the purchase of the system. And I heard over at DP that when they first came in best buy had them for $10, then bumped it up to the $40 it's at now. Typically that's done to keep people from purchasing them. They had a PSX demo for $99 last year, same deal.

But there are other stores that have it for the $10 price. Just got to shop around. I've seen it in Circuit City & TRU recently, both at the $10 price.

I would love to get an original kisok demo disk for the XBOX. My XBOX kiosk would then be complete. Anyone have one they could part with? As far as I know, you could never purchase them.

Does it matter which one? I'm pretty tight with the manager at the local EB (he got me some GCN store demos), so maybe I could wrest one from him.

ah, that would make sence now wouldnt it? the only toys "r" us around here is on the other side of the town over, so i rarly go there, do they tend to have cheaper old games? like PSX Dreamcast ect?

Typically no. TRU, or TЯU usually hangs on to their games longer than most other retailers, without much of any "clearanced/markdowned" gaming stuff. They still have many DC & N64 games at the stores around me, long after every other store had marked down & blew out all theirs. Not sure why this is like this. But it was recently, like within the past couple months or so, that they had a big clearance markdown, of sorts, and there were lots of $9.90 games, some stuff for DC & N64 is still $44.99, but there are some good games to be had for cheaper. But Everywhere else around here, sold out of N64 & DC stuff like a year and a half ago, pretty much EVERYTHING was priced under $10 at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Media Play, CompUSA, Toy Liquidators, Kaybee, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, you get the point Yet TRU had basically everything still at FULL Price, and kept it there until recently.

I rarely buy from them unless it is a sell, or special like their buy 2 get one free, or this little clearance they did finally. But it's probably worth a look if you haven't been in awhile.

Sorry to keep this a little off topic but - One main reason N64 games aren't marked down at places like TRU and KB's is because Nintendo does not offer to buy back unsold stock or offer cash/credit back to retailers on unsold products. That's one of the main reasons Sears no longer carries Nintendo games(At least around here). This policy may have changed with the GC now though because I always see those games marked down or clearanced.

Now for something that is driving me nuts....Why is it GC fans get so excitied about demo discs ?? Someone is always announcing a new demo is out and everything and I don't get the deal about it. I get excited when games come out not demos. Could someone explain? I am not in any way trying to be a dick, I just don't know the reason.

GC fans as opposed to say, PS2 fans? If that's what you're thinking about, maybe it's because Nintendo doesn't have a tradition of consumer-buyable demos, unlike the Sony JamPacks.

If why does anybody get excited about demos...well, why not? A playable demo gives you your first taste of a game. It lets you know how it handles, what kind of stuff is possible with the engine, what makes this game different from other games, etc. You could argue that the game itself is going to be just the demo you've seen, but with more levels...

And a multi-game demo disc is interesting because you can try out so much stuff...games that you otherwise might not bother to rent and wouldn't think of buying, you can try it, and who knows, maybe you'll change your mind and want the full experience.

Well ok I guess that may explain it. I didn't know if they are collectibles of some sort or if everyone just likes them. It just seemed that only GC fans are the only ones who discuss demo discs and it just seemed strange to me. But after all, who am I to think others are strange

Oh wait, you mean the ones in the store, then?

I dunno. Nintendo's games tend to be fewer, but "bigger ticket", so people have more anticipation with a proven franchise than with a promising newcomer maybe?

I bought a gamecube, gameboy player, super mario sunshine and the demo disc a few weeks back at Best Buy. I only ended up paying for the Gamecube and $30 for Super Mario Sunshine; SMS had fallen out of their system already (they just had a few copies left from a giveaway promotion) so they just made up a price, the GBP came with the system (special deal that week) and while I was at the checkout the manager on duty noticed I didn't have the demo disc and threw it in.

Their selection kinda sucks compared to TRU, but they did right by me with that deal. Unfortunately, while the GC will probably be my only current generation console, I kinda see it starting to go the way of the Dreamcast.... Nintendo is the only old-school videogame company still making consoles these days so it'll be a shame if they just end up making the GBA and software for other platforms.

The Nintendo reps are supposed to kill any retailers, their families, and any witnesses if the kiosk demos are not returned to them. Hence they are somewhat collectible...

Nintendo's vowed never to leave the console business. The 'Cube 2(whatever it may be called. I'm leaning towarrds GameKlienBottle ) is already under development.
