Duke is my man!! Always liked Duke and his many games. The man kicks booty, whether with a gun or a fast quip.

Anyone know what the status is with Duke Nukem Forever? Was it cancelled? Still being worked on?? I was excited about the game when I heard about it but have since heard nothing at all.

I can't believe that Duke has retired and living on the Chicken Ranch in Nevada!

I think it's still 'in development'.

Considering how long it has been that way, I think that's the "Forever" part of the game.

Yeah, the lateness of the game is a bit legendary, kind of a running joke on certain sites.

It would be weird to be a developer on a project like that.

At this point...it has taken them so Long to get anything going with that game. That if they did release it now with the current graphics it had when it was first announced, well...it would be outdated. At this point they have probably had to keep going back and implement the game into a new 3D engine. Then by the time they port it over, something else new comes out..and the have to start over.

At this time it would be best if they started over again, but with their own engine and advance it way above anything we can really handle today. Just like ID is doing with Doom 3. However, the visuals in Doom 3 may be a bit too far advanced...

I had heard, like a year ago, that the game was complete. But then there was some sort of internal war of some kind and the people responsible for it were either canned or quit. So, the entire project had to be restarted as the completed game could no longer be used for legal reasons.

Could be rumor, could be fact... I don't know.

I think that's part of what has already happened, actually.

Don't know about the "it was ready to ship but got tangled up in legal redtape" theory.

Ah, Duke Nuke'Em...the original (well, first 3D version anyway) is why I shied away from FPS on PCs...it was 1996, I was a senior in colege and my school had just wired up all the dorms, and some lowerclassmen in my hall and I would play. The trouble is, they all had them shiny new Pentiums and I was using my reliable old' 486/66. I kind of held my own despite my speed difficulty 'til the underwater level, where suddenly my frames per second was more like seconds per frame. I played a little Quake after that, but never got into using the mouse for aiming, and now all my FPS is on consoles.

I guess Duke Nuke'Em doesn't interest me that much as a character. He is kind of a "Ash in Evil Dead" ripoff...I like the way he has 2D roots, but whatever.

Heh...I didn't realize they were porting it to the Atari 2600...here's the
3D Realms site: http://www.3drealms....e4/dnf2600.html

That was just a joke, though they did get that title screen to actually work on emulators. It looks pretty good.

My favorite Duke Nukem 3D memory would have to be the mod for it to turn it into Redrum- The Shining II. The creator did an incredibly detailed map based on the hotel in The Shining. You had to search the hotel, find 'redrum' written in blood on the walls, and when you pushed the action button it would reverse and say 'murder', and you heard the little kid mutter "redrum!" The game ends with Jack chasing you through the snowy hedge maze.... one of the greatest game mods i've ever played.

Yah. I rmember hearing they ripped it all out and ported it to a newer engine at least once. Likely again, since the only engine move I know of was to the Unreal 1 engine.

I also know they've quit saying anything aside from "It'll be done when it's done."

I like the Duke Nukem games for the PS1 but I find them easily to get bored with unless using cheat codes. I've never played any of the PC versions that I know of..though the PC versions tend to be superior.

I think DN3D was the last good single-player FPS and thus the last FPS worth my time (I'm just no good at deathmatch type stuff.) It took the whole "creeping through nondescript brown hallways" thing and turned it on its head, making a world as lurid as Duke was stereotypical. I've never seen an FPS world as colorful and engaging ever since, but that may be because no one seems to care about single-player anymore anyway.

So I've been looking forward to DNF, well, forever. I'm thinking they need to just give in and name it "Duke Nukem: Daikatana" now and get it over with.

I liked Shogo a lot more, but that's just me. It's pretty evident the world at large didn't give a crap about the game.

Awwww...

Update on the game engine: They apparently hopped to the Unreal Tournament engine(esentially just the Unreal engine with some bugfixes and new features) right after they changed to the Unreal engine because the version they started with was incredibly buggy.

And they're claiming their changes to the engine mean they're currently working about UT2K3 level.

I like Time to Kill, that one was fun, but it isn't as good as N64's Zero Hour. I can't believe so many people overlook that one, probably because they were turned off by the first N64 Nukem.

I think they might release the new Duke Nukem 20 years from now. At least it seems it is going to take that long. Of course by then, VR might be a real possibility.

So, did anyone play "Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project"? I did and thought it was GREAT !!!!

My first time at playing Duke was on the Saturn. Was very very surprised at how good it was and after beating it I went and started buying all the PC titles. I bought Duke64 but when I saw the strip club was replaced with "Duke Burger" I gave up quickly and returned it.

I like 3rd-person Duke but really prefer him as a FPS. But Duke: MP was a side-scroller and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Never played any of the older Duke side-scrollers.

Yeah, it was okay. Just to give everyone who hasn't played the game the idea of it, it's in the vein of Contra: Shattered Soldier. 2D gameplay, 3D graphics. It's an okay game, though I prefer Duke in 1st or 3rd person form.

I liked Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project. It reminded me of the classic original Duke Nukem but with more updated graphics. This will have to do since Duke Nukem Forever will probably take Forever before it is ever released.

<<<-----looks up vaporware in dictionary and the dictionary said to look up Duke Nukem Forever.

There's a rumor on the G4 boards that Rockstar picked up the Duke Nukem franchise. I'll have to check with my contact to see if it's true.

Actually I believe 3D Realms (Duke Nukem) might have done some work for Rockstar +on+ Max Payne, so it really may not be that far fetched for DNF to be an R* game.
