Yeah. Old news.

When it comes down to $50 just before it fails, I'll be snatching one up to put in a museum of spectacular man made failures.

No one will pay to download games in this manner. People want hard copies. And not everyone has Broadband and even on broadband, how long would it take to download a modern game? Most games come on DVD's which are like 6GB. Do you want to, I mean really want to download 6GB to play a game.

What about renting? You can't rent a game this way. And if you did, what if you don't like it? You'd have downloaded 6GB for nothing. Wasted all that time. For nothing.

Bah. Waste of money, time, thought processes, electricity and um.. money. Whatever. Will be a spectacular failure and a fine addition to anyone's collection.

Indeed. Well put.

I'll get one for sure. I will wait to see what the whole deal is but hell, it's never a bad thing to have some more games to play :)

Not the way they want to do it. You pay per month to download a few games. At the end, you delete the old ones and download new ones. And if you want to play an older game, you have to download it again.

I want to have a hard copy. I want to play a game 10 years from now and not have to worry if the service is still in place.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

And think about it. I'm sure most games on this system will be available for the other systems in disc form. Screw Phantom. I'll take a disc over downloaded content any day.

Well, I am actually 100% positive this thing will be hacked so maybe that explains my anticipation for it :D

I keep thinking the Phantom is some bad joke.
Then it keeps showing up again.

I've actually seen game boxes for the N-Gage so who knows?

With the glut of new systems coming out, none of them will succeed. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! :D

Phantom..here today...gone in a few hours.

I seriously can't wait for the N-Gage to fail. Cheap portable gaming!

Anyone know if when it fails, we'll be able to still use the games? They won't pull some stupid thing like require you have a service to use the games, I hope. That would be a bastard thing to pull.

I don't know if everyone's been following the N-Gage or not but the thing is set up pretty horrible for gaming. In order to change a game the back cover must be removed, then you have to remove the battery, then you have to push down on some clip while you slide the game out. You'll need a couple of friends working as your pit crew if you want to change games in under 5 minutes. I'll be picking up a phantom though. Like starscream said it'll probably be hacked so fast they'll pull the plug on it faster than on a rich old lady nobody likes. I don't think the lineup on the phantom will be anything to get excited about but htere will probably one or two good games for it and I'm sure you'll be able to use it as a cheap PC with a little persuasion.

The problem with this is that by the time it's old enough to be added to a collection, the online service will have been long dead. Once Infinium stops providing content, the machine will be about as useless as a 1200 baud modem.

If someone hacks it, then great... but I have a feeling this thing might not ever get popular enough to be worthy of hacking on. Especially when considering that all the games for it will be available (in an equal form) on the PC.

We know, but that's half the fun. Isn't there a Sonic game coming out for it? It may have a few worthy games in its short run. Collect the whole set! Easily!

Which would make it a "Collectors Piece". ;) Though, if someone COULD hack it to save the games then maybe provide them on the black market on a burned DVD that we could use to upload to the thing then play the games again. Wait.. that's worded really badly, but you see where I'm going.

Otherwise, it's just a collectors item. I'm keeping mine in its box.. wait.. after I take it out once to look at it. THen it goes back in the box...

I think this is a business venture all set up for failure. This will not work because broadband is still too expensive for most people to justify. Companies are charging a mint and since there is no competition as yet, they are not fighting each other for market share and thus bringing the prices down.

The idea that I have to keep paying month after month to play the same game that I have downloaded is stupid. Once I download a game, I should be able to store it somewhere in the system and keep playing it over and over. It should only require some sort of access code to re-activate it and thus prevent me from giving it to someone else since it would track the original copy back to my system.

Phantom is a interesting idea but not yet feasible and unless they have exclusive content that is not available for other systems as well as being very good content, it is not going to succeed given the heavy competition already for gamer's dollars between Sony, Microsloth, and Nintendo.
