Can anyone tell me if there is any way to make Atari Joysticks to work on your PC. Has anyone ever tried it?

Even easier is to hack a PC gamepad and solder wires from a 9-pin connector onto it's foil. Since the pad uses independant wiring for the fire buttons, you would need to add a switch between the two if you wish to be able to use the pad as well.

In the diagram, the grey lines are the original gamepad traces. Solder the wires as shown...and wire the optional switch (white box) as shown. Cut the trace where the purple line is shown. Then just plug a standard joystick into the 9-pin connecter.

Okay here's the tough one. What about a Trackball Controller? Is there anyway to hook it up to my PC. Would the above schematics apply to it. :?

You should be able to use the 2600 Trakball in joystick mode. But using the Trakball in Trakball mode won't be possible, because it generates a code sequence where for example left and right would be pushed at the same time, which is something that those adapters don't support. Also the Trakball would be sending new codes more often than the joysticks on the PC could be read anyway.

Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg
