I would like to know what Saturn games (crappy gameplay or not) had some of the best graphics, or just did something graphically that blew you away.
Please share :)

Yeah -- Astal was nice, you can't go wrong with Nights and Panza Dragoon Saga -- all 3 made my jaw drop!

Lots of special effects, great camera and crisp grafix in Nights and PD Saga...

HAHA!

Anyways...

I realize it never pushed hte hardware to the limits or anything, but I felt Albert Odyssey was quite beautiful.

Well drawn 2D graphics, with the very occasional 3D effect to punch things up.

Sonic R, Quake (more like eye-mud, but still impressive), Layer Section II, Soukyugurentai, Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally, Fighters Megamix. X-Men Vs. Street Fighter.

There were impressive aspects to 3D games such as Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Saga, Sega Rally, and Dead Or Alive / VF2 / Last Bronx. But the best eye candy games (the ones that don't look as dated now that 3D is SO much more beautiful than it could be back then) are the 2D ones, IMHO.

Astal has beautiful visuals! Pop Saturn Bomberman in and its tiny details and smooth framerate might impress you too. Sonic 3D Blast has beaming color, detailed graphics and good weather FX. Radiant Silvergun is outstanding, it's half 2D, half 3D. But the most impressive was Street Fighter VS Xmen w/4meg RAM cart, it was simply unbelievable!!!

NiGHTS is really awesome too, but is marred by constant background popup. It doesn't bother me but it is very noticeable. I love strange, colorful, imaginative games like NiGHTS!

I will state that Nights is awesome. But I suck at the game and can't get past the level 2s on either character...ugh.

I will also state that while not visually as impressive as todays titles, Shining Force III and Shining the Holy Ark both blew me away when I first saw them. And that was just 3 years ago...hehe...

Also very dated looking by today's standards...but I always thought Burning Rangers was pretty damn nice to look at too.

In the Hunt is an impressive 2D game (although I have one of the glitch Saturns where I have to unplug the joystick before the intro screen loads). Lots of stuff going on at once on the screen.

Since that's one of the few Saturn games that I have, that's pretty much all I have to contribute to the topic.

I just won a Saturn on eBay, and a copy of NiGHTS. I'm very pleased! I used to have a Saturn in England, which I really liked. It's a shame that some games I had, like Guardian Heroes, go for so much in this day and age!

Burning Rangers was pretty cool looking too.

NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS are awesome as well. NiGHTS is the only game I've ever been able to get A rankings for all of the levels. It got to the point where I'd just go around and try and get my Nightopians to mutate. :D

But for a really simple, silly look, Baku Baku was pretty good looking as well.

I see the Clockwork Knight and Clockwork Knight 2 have not been mentioned. Especially with CK2, the visuals are quite nice in a very baroque and bizarre manner. It combines 2D and 3D elements for a 2D sidescroller. Finding all the playing cards on CK2 was an experience I will always fondly recall.

Hmmm...
"Layer Section 2" looks a lot better than the PlayStation RayStorm did.

That is because many of the Saturn's shoot em up games look better than anything at that time did. Especially the 2D stuff..the Saturn was a 2D sprite powerhouse compared to the playstation as I recall. Still the playstation could handle most 3D better. But the saturn in the right hands could churn out some good stuff...

Layer Section 2 and RayStorm are the same game.
And both are 3D, where the arena is more level(though the Saturn is still more capable, it's a lot closer).

I'm well familiar with the Saturn's strengths and weaknesses.

Panzer. Dragoon. Saga. Best. Game. Ever. That Nobody Played or Heard Of.

I liked Burning Rangers and Shining Force III too.

Have Nights, but never played it.
