Just curious if anyone is playing the game? I was just given a free copy of the game and am on the 30 day free trial. Haven't played it long enough to really form an opinion yet except to say:

A) Complicated with lots of things to learn about that are not explained at all in the instruction manual, like tradeskills and Wayfarer's. Can't even find a good website that talks about them.

B) Tradeskills are HARD and confusing with not knowing what you can make, what items it takes to make them, or even what level you need to be to use components.

If you are playing or have played, what do you think of it? Anyone planning on getting the expansion pack, Frontiers?

Thanks in advance!

I've been back on for about a month now. I've got a lvl 21 shaman named Nekochan on the Marr's Fist server.

Tradeskills aren't going to be in the manual since they were implemented a few months ago in a major game revision. Waysenders are usually gained through quests; you'll most likely need to worry about getting coaches.

As far as crafting items, you should pick one (jewelry, amor or weapons) and stick to it because it gets expensive. Basically, you want to equip your hammer, and use your patterns or molds with your ingredients by expeirmenting first. Once you have learned a recipe, you can make that item again. Since you're just starting out, you'll be using the low-end ingredients.

Probably the best site I've found is this one.

I should be on tonight if you needed a hand... assuming your character is on the same server as mine.

Hello and thanks for the response and info!!

I'm on the Ferrans Hope server at the moment with a Lvl 12 Druid. I've hit all the good and neutral coaches so far. Took me several hours to do so as I kept hitting unpassable mountain ranges. Didn't like the fact you get no warning before your invis drops (I soon learned to cast that spell about every 60sec's when the coast was clear..grin) or that you have no way of knowing which creatures can see through invis until you are dead (damn orc's) but I only died twice while running around. Sure was ALOT of red creatures around and almost everything con'd as hostile to me, even Treants who I thought would be a friend of the druid.

Since I'm pretty sure that Druids can't wear metal armor or use anything other than a blunt club or staff, I decided to do jewelcraft since it would be a more useful skill for my character. Only got my skill up to Lvl 1.4 and even that cost me a few Tunare to do as I was only getting 155 skill pts per sucessful glass item I made. Something like 15 tries and my skill went up once.

Tradeskills seems to be a nice idea but methinks they need to work on it some. Without items being labeled with levels, you end up burning up materials without a chance for success, if I'm understanding the process correctly. For example, I was solo'ing gnolls over by Qeynos Prison to raise funds to work on jewelcraft. Got quite a few gem drops (along with the bronze weapons). A lot of the gems were marked for weapons or armor but several were marked for jewelers. I attempted to make several items using the gems and was unsucessful on all (except for a pyrite earring I made) and lost the gems.

The way the game is set up now, I had no idea whether or not I even had a chance of successfully making something as I have no idea what level your skill must be to use a certain gem. Maybe if the gems and metals had a level indicator on them you might not waste some of those preceious gem drops on attempting to make something that is too high a level for you.

Overall, I haven't played enough to really form an accurate evaluation of the game yet but its interesting so far; just not sure how long it will hold my interest. I prefer grouping as it lowers downtime and gives you others to chat with but if people aren't online or you can't find a group then you have to solo. I was solo'ing gnolls for almost 90min yesterday and I only got one yellow of exp for all that time and got pretty bored with it.

Several people I've talked to online say they are quitting as the game gets boring fast; others say they love it and can't wait for Frontiers. I only know that I've hunted & explored around Freeport, Qeynos, Rivervale and Telethin and there are a lot more char's in their 30's, 40's, and 50 then there are in their teens. Not sure if this is an indication that there aren't a lot of new players playing the game or not.
