There have been many games that were disappointing. There are a few that got ripped out of the console and flung across the room in frustration, and the exclusive group that got ripped out and quickly taken to the basement to meet with Mr. Hammer. Coleco's Miner 2049er with its insanely picky steering, and Mario Bros 2. (where to begin about its problems annoying coasting, picky steering, delayed joystick reaction, no continue, etc.) are two that have met that fate in my collection.

What has driven others to the point of (potentially regrettable) destruction?

Just an interesting, lets you vent, question.

Derek.

Way to double post, double post boy.

Anyway, to answer your question. I have never ripped a game out and thrown it. But I have just gotten mad and started screaming at the game. As well as squeezed the controller and pretended to try and break it to the point just before it actually does. As well as biting the cord in an attempt to sever its connection to the foul console from which the game came.

Well, here's my vent:

Please stop whining about how hard your games are. You have it pretty damn sweet in Canada.

I've never destroyed anything myself, and the day that I do, I think I would need to re-evaluate my life and priorities.

I get frustrated, but I usually just go: "Alright, now that's enough of THAT!" as I flick the power switch to the off position. ;)

I smashed a saturn pad (model 1) on my tv screen years ago while playing virtual on. It is still working and held together with tape. Then i discovered the wonders of Action replay/gameshark to complete those games i didnt like but wanted to see the end anyway.

I dropped an SNES of a 9 story apartment block, it was broken anyway and a friend wanted pictures.

My 6 year old daughter, Boston, tries to play D.K.for the 2600, and can't for the life of her get Mario up the ladder. She SCREAMS at the screen" WHY WON'T YOU GO UP THE STUPID LADDER, STUPID MAN" ....
can't help to chuckle a little, ....

And I'v broken 2 7800 control pads.

I've never flung and actual game. When I was much younger, I used to smash the controllers on the floor in frustration occasionally, though.

Carts no. I have snapped a joystick in half on occasion. Particularly on Pitfall 2.

Well, with my second Atari, an 800XL, I got so frustrated after having loaded a game of Jumpman Jr. from cassette and dying after getting quite far that I beat the crap out of my poor 800XL's keyboard. It never worked right after that and I had to replace it with a 65XE.

I got very worked up in those days.

Aside from opening up dupes just to see the insides, I've never intentionally destroyed a cart. A few joysticks, but never a cart.

I used to 'Street Fighter: The Movie' Saturn disc as a coaster for a while and then broke it in two when I realised it wasn't even good to hold drinks. I hasten to add it was a promo just in case anyone thinks I bought it :D :D

I remember in the summer of 1992 my brother and I were playing NHL Hockey on his Sega Genesis. Those of you who played that for any length know about the little backdoor that will guarantee you a goal every time!

Anyway...I don't remember whether I was actually using that backdoor or if I was just plain beating the crap out of him. Anyway, it got so bad that my brother ripped his controller out of the console, walked out onto the roof [there used to be a balcony until the roof was replaced] and proceeded to spend about ten seconds whipping the controller against the brick wall. At least he wasn't so insane that he didn't take time to pick up the pieces before he came back inside...

And with most here, in that Ive never got mad enough to bust up a game. I've threw controllers but never busted em.
However, I think the first tiem I ever flipped off someone, it was mario. That little prick plumber pissed me off when he fell into a hole or something. Im sure i had stuck my middle finger up before, but that was the first time I did it with such feeling and definitely had the right purpose behind it. I cussed out a lot of games too. 2600 and on.

I've never gotten so furious that I demolished a game. I have accidentally busted a joystick before. I figure if I'm getting too frustrated, it's time to move on to another activity and take a crack at the game another time. Life's too short to stay hacked off at what you do for enjoyment.

I've smashed a few Saturn/PSX/Mega Drive controllers in my time. And only 1 game has broken - Worldwide Soccer 2000 on the DC. I threw it on the floor and it hit a plug -> resulting in a smashed disc.

It sucked hard anyway. :P

I know that I have played a few games that have been frustrating and I kept thinking to myself "What was the damn programmer thinking"? :ponder:

Usually I just stop playing the game and move to something else that is more enjoyable. It depends. Sometimes I know that a game is going to be hard from other people who have played the game before. However I will still play it because I want to know the satisfaction of having beaten that game.

A perfect example was Tomb Raider for the Playstation. It only allowed save games at certain points and some of the harder puzzles had to be done over and over when I would slip up. I was determined to beat it no matter what because otherwise I would have never continued with the game to the end (The PC version lets you save anywhere so it would have been less frustrating but at the time I did not have a good enough computer to play it).
